Is changing fuel pump on 2.8 diesel shogun an easy diy job?

if your talking about injector pump its not a job for a novice.|||not too sure bout a shogun.

Changed fuel pump, fuel pump relay and stop relay, crankcase position sensor, distributor rotor and cap, spark plugs and wires. I took cap off of fuel pump relay and pushed in contacts and fuel pump comes on but when I go to start by turning the key, the starter cranks but the fuel pump will not come on. The experts say its the crankcase position sensor but I replaced this also.|||if you can hear the fuel pump running then maybe the fuel filter is stopping the fuel from reaching the engine. how is the spark? do you have good spark at the plugs? it might be the coil or module if you have no spark. if you have fuel reaching the engine then it,s got to be spark.|||Ignition switch trust me its very common and cost less than $20 dollars.

Changing fuel pump on 2000 s10 4wd?

THE FUEL PUMP IS IN THE TANK. SUPPORT THE TANK WITH A FLOOR JACK (PREFERABLY WHEN IT IS EMPTY). LOOSEN THE TWO BOLTS (ONE AT THE END OF EACH STRAP ACROSS THE TANK). LOWER THE TANK ABOUT 6 OR 8 INCHES (JUST ENOUGH TO GET YOUR ARMS ABOVE IT). REACH IN AND DISCONNECT THE THREE LINES AND 2 ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS IN THE CENTER OF THE TANK GOING TO THE TOP OF THE PUMP. ALSO DISCONNECT THE HOSES GOING TO THE ROLLOVER VALVES ON THE TOP OF THE TANK. LOWER THE TANK THE REST OF THE WAY AND SLIDE IT OUT. TURN THE METAL RING ON THE TOP OF THE TANK ABOUT AN 1/8 TURN AND PULL THE SENDING UNIT STRAIGHT UP. THE PUMP IS IN THIS UNIT. IT WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AS AN ASSEMBLY. PUT THE NEW ONE IN AND PUT EVERYTHING BACK THE SAME WAY IT CAME OUT. AND YOU%26#039;RE DONE.

Information on changing a fuel pump to a '94 Chrystler Shadow?

on most Chrysler%26#039;s you have to buy the couplet unit to get the fuel pump but to put it in . You will have to drop the gastank then where the lines go to the tank you will see a big round peace that looks like a jar lid take that off and pull out the old pump unit and replace it with the new one then put your tank back on and check it for leaks|||I think the fuel pump is in the tank. I don%26#039;t know for sure on that model, but, on most Chrysler cars the pump is in the tank. The tank will have to be removed from the vehicle to gain access. Good luck.....hope this helps.

Thanks!|||This isn%26#039;t a real good one for anybody without a LOT of experience in fuel system work.

Your fuel pump is in the gas tank, and is part of a unit that combines the pump and fuel level sensor.

The vehicle must be raised, supported, and the fuel removed, prior to dropping the gas tank.

The vapors are the most danger, as a single spark in the right circumstances will be the worst nightmare of your life.

If you do try this yourself, be sure to have a least one other person around with an A/B/C/ rated fire extinguisher in hand.

Brass punches are used to unscrew the retaining ring on the tank to pull the unit, so if you%26#039;re not VERY confident in dealing with a potentially explosive environment, this job is best left to a pro.

I am changing my engine its the same engine but my old one is EFI this one is not do i change the fuel pump?

I agree that you should take all of the external parts from the original engine and put them on the replacement. If you have fuel injection, then the pump is in the gas tank, and you need to remove the mechanical one from the replacement. Keep in mind that if you have to pass a smog check, most states will fail it if you put the wrong year engine in it. Where I live you cant put that engine in because it is older than the vehicle.|||The pump for the efi may be a high pressure one, while the one for the carby model may be a mechanical, or low pressure one.check with whoever supplied the motor, they should be able to say.|||the way to do it would be to transfer parts from old engine to new engine if it can be done getting rid of the EFI is just opening another can of worms like it may not be legal|||if ur intending 2 keep ur motor fuel injected u need 2 eliminate the fuel pump on the motor but not the electronic one in the gas tank...also use the upper and lower intake, and distributer from the EFI... again... that is if ur intending 2 keep it fuel injected

Do I have to drop the tank on my 95 Ford Thunderbird to change the fuel pump?

Do I need to drop the tank to access the fuel pump %26amp; change it on my 95 Ford Thunderbird or is there a site plate hidden somewhere maybe under the backseat or in the trunk that will allow me to change the pump without dropping the tank?|||some fords have the access plate. lift up the back seat if you don%26#039;t see one than yes you have to drop the tank. if you do have to drop the tank put some penatraiting oil on the bolts to try to keep them from breaking because they are usually rusted.|||If the fuel pump is located in the gas tank you do.

This car is selling for cheap but I cannot afford to spend more than $500 to fix it!|||Are you kidding me? Fuel pump takes 1 hour to replace, and the part would run about $150.

Mercedes is easy to work on, but mechanics would charge you arm %26amp; leg for repair. Car maybe cheap, but if you cannot replace simple thing like fuel pump on your own, you are asking for trouble with this car. Mercedes require more maintenance than average Honda, and cost would be 3 times more. So if you cannot do the work yourself, you should stay away from luxury sedans.|||Don%26#039;t change the pump unless it%26#039;s bad.You can check fuel pump pressure. As far as %26#039; what else ? %26#039; depends on the car%26#039;s maintenance history.|||%26quot;This car is selling for cheap but I cannot afford to spend more than $500 to fix it!%26quot;

If you have $500 on hand. I suggest taking it to a local shop, and let them look at it. They can find the problem, and if you wont fix it. It should not cost more then $500. Starting problems or most of the time minor fixes. When i say local shop i dont mean dealership. They or much much higher then a local small shop.

P.S: go to a local shop, and tell them your problem. Most of the time they will tell you what they think it is. Then you would know, and can ask how much to fix it. Make sure you ask the total of the price. That way you have labor etc all added up.

How do you change a fuel pump in a 2002 dodge caravan?

I think that the fuel pump is bad and I need to change it. I can not find any info on how the best way(and safest) is to change the pump. Any help would be appreciated!|||well you dident say if it was a carb or fuel injection.

If it fuel injection then you will have to drop the gas tank as the pump is insider the tank.

This is not hard unless you have a lot of gas in it.

But my advice is DO NOT DO IT IF YOU NEVER HAVE . It is a little trickey trying to get it down with a lot of gas.|||A lift and transmission jacks to hold the tank in place.|||As far as safety is concerned, take it to a dealer or shop. You have to remove the fuel tank to get to the fuel pump. It would be easier to have the car on a lift. It would be easier, also to have a tank jack. The fumes from the gas would make it very dangerous. I recommend you have a professional do it and they would be liable for any problems, ideally.|||If you are planning on doing it yourself, the fuel tank must be removed as the fuel pump is inside the tank. Use a brass punch and hammer to remove the lock ring holding the pump in.

I prefer changing them when the tank is near empty. Not always possible, so I have a catch can (barrel at times) underneath to catch gas as it flows out once the ring is removed.

A new oring should be installed with the new pump and make sure the lock ring is fully seated.

Whatever you do, don%26#039;t smoke around it (if you or anyone else there does). Fuel lines going to the pump can be removed by squeezing the plastic lock on them.

It is an realtively easy job at the shop, but a lot harder if you are trying to do it at home.

Seriously, consider having it done.

Changing fuel pump rod slid down how do I get it back up?

1978 chevy 350|||Heres a great tip for the falling rod..

Chevy put a fuel pump rod holder on the block. Most just don%26#039;t know about it.

Look at the front on block, right there at the corner next to the fuel pump.

You will see 2 bolt holes. Most times 1 will have a bolt in it and other will not.

That upper bolt hole is a direct feed to the fuel pump rod well. If you remove and leave out bolt that hole will squite a stream of oil out.

If you take that bolt out and screw in a longer 3/8%26quot; thread bolt, the longer bolt will hit/push right against the rod and hold it in place once you take pump off.

No more messing with grease to hold it up. Just tighten up a longer bolt in that top hole on front of block.

Now as to the askers question. You could take the plate off. The way the pump bolts up is.. Block has big open hole, steel plate and gasket bolts on to block with 2 smll bolts.. Fuel pump then sits on that plate and bolts to block with 2 larger bolts.

If you cant get the rod up, just remove the plate and rod will slide right out into your hand.

You should be able to get a small flat blade screwdrive up uder edege of rod though and push it up some w/o taking plate off.

Engine needs to be turned so the cam is not trying to push rod down. The cam has a lobe on it that looks like a rounded off triangle, as engine turns that lobe moves in a circle and the peak of lobe press rod all the way down to work pump.

Once you get rod up, push it up in the hole and hold it there with your index finger as you have a buddy to turn the engine with a breaker bar and 5/8%26quot; socket on center bolt of crank closewise. You will feel the rod move up and down. Tell him to stop when rod is up

Now just use the bolt trick I mentioned to hold rod in place.. Bolt on fuel pump. Remove long bolt and replace with stock short one in that hole|||I%26#039;d get a long magnet and see if you can reach it that way.|||that sucks. Long slim needlenosed pliers or a tiny magnet glued to a pick or something.|||As I recall, the push rod slides %26quot;up%26quot; into the block and rests on a eccentric on the camshaft to move the pump plunger.

The biggest problem I%26#039;ve had is getting the rod to stay up in the guide as I%26#039;m installing the pump.

I usually coat the outside of the rod with grease to hold it in place briefly.

So I%26#039;m not sure what you%26#039;re having problems with.

It should simply slide back in at a high angle.|||I had that same problem with my 78 chevy K-10 (350) a couple of months ago, I took the rod out, plastered it with a heavy grease and slid it back up and the grease held it there until I could line up the pump and insert it, pain in the butt to replace a $25.00 part. It worked and that small amount of grease won%26#039;t hurt anything, learned from someone who used butch wax years ago for the same thing

How to change fuel pump on 1994 Ford Bronco?

I need to change the fuel pump on my 1994 Ford Bronco. I am confused. Where is the fuel pump located? Are there two fuel pumps? If there is two pumps. Which one should I change? I called the local stores like autozone and checker and they told me $130. But if I look online are ones for $65 such as the following.

http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-30257A_fuel_pump__33_gallon_bronco.htm

Please help. I am not sure what to order.|||In a 94 Bronco you have one fuel pump located in the fuel tank (it is a high pressure pump, earlier models 85-90 used 2 pumps...a low pressure unit in the tank and a high pressure pump on the frame rail), to change it you drop the fuel tank, disconnect the lines and wiring connector, remove the lock ring and the pump and sender Assembly will lift out of the tank. Ford sells the pump and sender as a unit (which is why it is a little more expensive), some jobbers sell the pump and pick up as a partial unit and some sell just the pump itself....the main problem with buying just a pump is that NO ONE sells the connector seals that lock the pump to the pick up assembly and these are often damaged when removing the pump from the unit. I recommend the use of either the FORD complete pump and sender assembly or a pump and pick up assembly from the jobber stores.|||yes two pump%26#039;s one in the tank and one on the frame rail . is it a full size or a ll low pump in tank and high pump on rail. you can hear high pump by turn of key. or pull line going to high pump and see if gas is coming out .

96' Ford explorer Changing fuel Pump W/labor ballpark price ??

I need new fuel pump installed, garage says over $400.00 W/labor. Is this 2 much to pay? He also stated parts might break due to rust. So possible extra cost.

Can this be done yourself, if mecanicly incline ?

Have u done It ?|||Disconnect the fuel pump switch, probably behind the back of the passenger side kick panel. This will disengage the fuel pump power to the fuel pump. Crank the vehicle over to expel the pressure from the fuel lines. Disconnect the battery.

Jack her up, drop the spare tire, put a floor jack under the tank, remove the fuel cap, drain the tank and unbolt the fuel filler.

Then remove the two strap bolts that hold the tank in the vehicle with some WD-40 and a good wratchet. If you break one of those bolts or you strip them, use a nut removal tool from Sears. Bolts are available at the auto parts shop.

Drop the tank down on the floor jack carefully and use a fuel coupling removal tool from the auto parts store. They%26#039;re plastic rings that fit into the couplings, where the lines come out of the tank.

Push in, then out. The fuel lines come off.

Drop the tank down with the floor jack, then knock the ring securing the fuel pump and lines to the tank with a mallet and a screwdriver or punch. (the new fuel pump will have this ring, so don%26#039;t worry about ruining it) This will be the second problem with rusty removal, after you conquer the tank strap nuts...

Remove the old fuel pump, install the new one, hook up the power connections and hoses again before you raise the tank totally back into it%26#039;s position, and install in the reverse order.

That%26#039;s it!

Now, is the job worth $400.00 WITH labor?

That%26#039;s up for YOU to decide now that you know what is involved...|||A friend just had his 1996 Ford Explorer fail to start until I hit the gas tank with a hammer while he cranked the motor over. That sometimes gets it going so you don%26#039;t have to tow it to the mechanic. Sounds like it%26#039;s an epidemic this time of year!

The price you were quoted sounds fair. Advanced auto has a price of $215.25 for the pumps in US made vehicles with the beginning Vin number being a 1.

The Mexico vehicles with a 2 for the first number of the Vin costs $178.22.

The gas tank has to come out, it%26#039;s a pain in the butt and I won%26#039;t try to do the job with out a lift.

Your mechanic sounds fair and reliable.|||Yes you can do it yerself. I%26#039;d recommend a shortcut that many shops (including dealerships) take. Instead of dropping the gas tank, cut a 3 sided flap,6 inch x 6 inch, in the floor. You don%26#039;t even have to empty the tank. When you%26#039;re done push floor back %26amp; seal%26#039;er. =^ )|||Depends...

Ford factory pump is $300

labor is usually about 2 1/2 hours ..at $80/hour thats $200

Plus fuel filter and such.. that%26#039;s a minimum $550 job at a dealer.

Watch out on the aftermarket fuel pumps, I know autozone and some others will sell you just the pump motor, but I persoanlly rather change the whole assy as around that time the fuel pressure regualtor moved to the fuel pump.

and I%26#039;ve done it on many explorers....

After changing the fuel pump why is my 1999 ford expidition not starting ? (It cranks but wont start)?

Fuse? There is a schrader valve ( like a big tire valve stem) on the injection rail. get a rag and press down on the center of it quickly, If the fuel sprays out then you are getting pressure to the injectors and your problem lies elsewhere. possibly a bad ground or wiring problem. You should also be able to hear the fuel pump %26quot;whirring%26quot; in the tank when you cycle the key on. The fuel filters as well on some of these trucks is hidden behind a plate on the frame rail near the torsion bar crossmember and rarely get serviced. Hope some of that helps. Changing fuel pump on 91 s10...?

I need to change the fuel pump on my S-10. I was wondering if it would be easyer to drop the tank, or to pull the bed off?|||drop the tank, there are just a few bolts (usually 2), to remove..if you take off the bed, then your looking at around 12+ or more bolts..

at least if the tank strap bolts are rusty, just cut them, and after the tank is off, put new bolts in..(use stainless if you can get them..to make life easier in the future)..

the tank bolts are considerably smaller than the ones that hold the bed on..|||hey .. i would pull the bed .. it is the easiest way .. there are 6 15 mm bolts in the bed and the 13 mm ground bolt for the taillight harness ground . left side inside of the frame rale.then you you just have to unplug the taillight in the same area and undo the gas filler neck screws.. 2 to 3 people can lift a empty the bed off .. of course it it has a camper shell or other mods it could be a little different ..then removefule lines and the snap ring or turn the lock with a hammer and a punch .I can%26#039;t remember what year they change how the lock works on the tank to hold the pump in. you can do it in about 2 hours .. i changed mine by myself ..i used a cherry picker and a H frame to lift the bed off . i have had both body styles apart off the frame several times .. if you have any questions ..feel free to ask ..be glad to help. Tim|||I own a shop, and have done several of these. I think its much easier to just move the bed back far enough to get to it, and it makes for easy work doing it this way. All you have to do is slide it back far enough to get to it, you don%26#039;t have to remove it from the vehicle. Unplug the wiring harness for the tail lights, remove the bolts that hold the snorkel to the bed, remove the bed bolts, and it will slide back far enough to work on it. You could put a jack-stand in the back to support it, but I don%26#039;t think you really have to do that. Due to gasoline in the tank, it certainly is the safest way to do it. I would do it outside too, in case there is a fire. I know of several shops that have had some nasty fires while working on gas tanks, so safety is a big concern.

Glad to help out, good Luck!!!|||Move the bed back enough to get to the top of the tank. Very easy to do. Some people have found that making the spark plug gap 5 thousandths of an inch wider helps with the idle in some older models like the W126 (81 -91). Worth a try and you can always put it back to original if it does not work.

Look for vacuum leaks too. I doubt the fuel pump is the problem, if it is running and not making noises it is OK. I just asked a question on how to locate the fuel pump. I heard people mention that it is a hard task to complete. Could someone please explain the process of changing the fuel pump. The shop I took it to wanted to charge me over $700 for the part and labor. Which I thought was rather high. Thanks for your time.|||The fuel tank has to come off. You have to disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connector. Then loosen the 2 straps that hold the tank in place. This is not easy to do, especially if there is fuel in the tank. Be very careful if you really plan to do this yourself. I%26#039;ve replaced many fuel pumps on Sunfires and I wouldn%26#039;t want to do this job at home. Once the tank is out, you have to remove the fuel pump module from the tank. The fuel pump module seal has to be installed correctly or it will leak. And also the check engine light will come on if you don%26#039;t install the seal correctly.|||You have to remove the fuel tank from the car . Sometime that includes dropping the exhaust. Once on the floor you remove the fuel pump module and replace the whole thing .Reinstall the module and then the tank into the car. Install the exhaust and the fuel filter . 700 buck is a good price if you ask me.

good luck hope I helped|||the gas tank has to come off, then the fuel pump sending unit is in the tank.Try buying an aftermarket fuel pump,or buying a used pump at a salvage yard that would save you a few $.

Changing fuel filter on 97 Saturns SC2. Where is the fuel pump fuse?

I need to relieve the pressure in the fuel lines before i disconnect the fuel filter but i can%26#039;t figure out which fuse to pull. There are too many acronyms on the fuse box cover.|||It%26#039;s a 10amp located in the instrument panel junction block (accesible from the right side of console). Also in the same panel is the fuel pump relay which you can just pull out...

Run the engine till it stalles out.|||I dont know that Ive ever seen a fused fuel pump. The owners mannual should have better view of what fuse does what. Ive never removed a fuse- when you turn the fitting to loosen the filter, it will bleed the pressure and when its gone, remoe the filter. Most are under the car so wait until the engine and exhast has cooled off before removing the fitting and wear safety glasses so no gas blows into your eyes in case you loosen it to much.TtT

PS- if you find a fuse- pull it- start the car and wait until it dies from lack of gas then remove the filter. I am going to ask my buddy(professional mechanic) about fused fuel pumps.

Anybody know how to get directions for changing a fuel pump on a 2003 durango?

my bf says he know how but i wanted a guideline to walk him through it|||You have to take the straps off the gas tank and let it drop down. Disconnect the hoses from the tank that go to the filler cap, disconnect the pressure line and return line, and unplug the electrical connector on the pump. Remove and replace the pump, and put it all back together. It is best to do this when the vehicle is very low on gas since the tank is heavy and it holds a lot. If you have a lot of gas in a non-running car, you will probably want to siphon out as much as you can.|||remove fuel tank and unhood all the wires and hoses going to the tank. once its out clean around the pump and turn the locking collar and remove the pump. installing is just the reverse of removal.

you could also go to a parts store and get a haynes, mitchell, or other repair manual. those will tell you everything you need to know how to fix on the car step by step.|||Stop by your local auto parts/book store and they should have a repair manual for your Durango. It should tell you in there. Also you will have the repair manual for further repairs.

Can any body tell me or give a link on changing fuel pump on 2002 chevy tahoe v8?

I work for a chevy dealer your fuel pump is in your tank. and you just need to drop the tank pull it out out replace it and put it back in.|||I%26#039;m not sure but i think the fuel pump is in the tank are you sure it%26#039;s a faulty pump and not a relay|||visit www.mygmlink.com|||Empty the tank as much as possible by siphoning fuel out of it. Then drop the tank by removing the tank straps. Weight of tank depends on how much fuel is left inside, but the average person can handle it, but it IS easier with 2 people.

Disconnect the filler pipe. Loosen the tank straps, but don%26#039;t drop the tank just yet. Lower the tank enough so that you can disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connection from the top of the pump/sending unit. Once it is disconnected, drop it to the floor.

Take a wire brush and clean around the top of the tank, then blow it clean with some compressed air.

Some sand is to be expected in the bottom of the tank, remove it if you can, but it wont kill you if you don%26#039;t.

Need info on changing fuel pump on mercedes s500 yr 2000?

I need to change the fuel pump and filter, location, and any how too would help thanks in advance|||Fuel pump is in the rear of the car. Should be a black plastic cover over it and the fuel filter. However are you sure its the pump? On that model car the pump does not turn on unless the car tells it that everything is working. Have seen problems with the crank sensor going out. Car sees no signal from it thus it does not turn the pump on. Also check the fuse to the coils they some times blow again the car sees no ignition so it does not turn the pump on.

Start by checking to see that you get power to the pump when cranking. If not look you need to see why the car is not sending power to it. Also do not be shocked by the price of the fuel filter in that car it has a pressure regulator built in dealer list is $116.00

Is it easier to change a fuel tank complete with pump than just changing a fuel pump on a 1993 Buick Century?

It%26#039;s a wash, because you have to take the tank out to put in the pump anyway. You should probably just get the pump and put it in so you don%26#039;t have to buy a tank too. Save some money. Unless the tank is rusted through, but if it ain%26#039;t broke, don%26#039;t fix it.|||same..u drop tank..replace pump...or drop tank..put new pump in new tank ...and replace...|||Since the tank has to be dropped to access the pump there really is not much difference. However if you just replace the pump there are about eight screws to remove around the pump sealing gasket. I have a sneaky suspicion that you have worded this wrong and mean to replace the pump and tank sending unit instead of pump and tank. Then the easiest would be to replace the whole unit.|||I%26#039;m guessing that a 93 century probably has a pretty rusty tank depending on where you live. If it is, and it%26#039;s leaking, you probably have to replace the sending unit assembly anyways because the lines are probably rusted up pretty bad where they come out of the sending unit and attach to the vehicle. Either way, If you use gm parts, and I highly suggest that you do unless you like dropping the tank to change the pump, the sending unit will probably come without the pump on it. You%26#039;ll probably have to order the pump separate. If you were to change the whole tank with a pump already installed, there is no way I would use the pump that%26#039;s in there. No telling what shape that pump is in. If the tank is not rusted and leaking, don%26#039;t replace it. If the sending unit lines are not rusted off and leaking and you can get them loose with out breaking them, then just replace the pump. It%26#039;s not that hard. but like I said, the lines are probably going to be rusted and will break upon trying to loosen them so I would plan I buying a sending unit along with a new pump. A complete assembly with a pump included is probably available in the aftermarket, but aftermarket pumps fail far too often to not go with OEM.

Will changing the fuel pump and fuel filter help bad ideling in my car?

New fuel pump and filter can%26#039;t hurt. You may be able to adjust the throttle cable bolt a little as a temporary fix. If you get a manual for your car, it will be easier to perform maintenance on it. You may try having the fuel injectors professionally cleaned. Rough idle can come from alot of things, unfortuanately.|||sounds more like a fuel, air mixture issue. now if the miles are high, then fuel pump or even fuel filter could be an issue. being a benz you should be able to put a scanner on the car and see what codes show up for issues.|||Sell it and get a car that won%26#039;t cost you an arm and a leg to take it to the Benz Surgeon...

But doing what you said sure couldn%26#039;t hurt it.|||Try this: get some carb cleaner from the auto parts store.remove the filter housing around what we in the automotive mechanics business affectionately called the throttle body. what happens is over time the thang get all gummy and won close the flap, if that flap do not close then them air get into the mix and fluctuates the engine RPMs. this can cause the motor to die at a stop when the air conditioner is running. It is an easy fix. just clean the flap with the spray while moving the throttle linkage. be sure to put back the air filter housing onto the throttle body before starting the vehicle. It will be as if you had a tuneup.|||I doubt that fuel filter or pump is the problem. maybe fuel filter if it is completely clogged.

The first thing I would do is clean out the throttle body (small can of $2 carb cleaner, disconnect intake at throttle body, and clean the throttle plate) It should take 30 minutes or so. If you have not change fuel filter in last 50K miles, then I would change that as well.

If that does not fix the problem, then I would look at fuel pressure regulator. Pressure test the fuel system to make sure that the fuel pressure regulator is working properly.

The under power of the car is rarely has anything to do with problem with the fuel system. problem with fuel system would either stall the car, or generate puff of black smoke. Has nothing to do with the fuel system. If you feel that the car is underpowered, then it has more to do with ignition system. When was the last time you%26#039;ve changed the spark plugs? I would look into ignition system tune up first.|||B service and scan at a MB dealer.

How do i go about changing a fuel pump on a 1994 delta 88 lss?

hi i was wondering how hard it is to do, and what i have to do to remove the tank. Thanks!|||I understand your saying the fuel pump is in the gas tank. Drain the gas out of the tank and then take the tank out. Then there is a large ring on top of the gas tank and to release it most of the time turn counter clock wise but you need to hit it with small hammer first by tapping it around to get it loose to turn). The whole unit will come out. The fuel pump is on that. Buy a new fuel pump and the instruction will be with it ; to put a new one it.

Get a motor manuel to cover that year of car. They are around thirty dollars.

Changing a fuel pump in a 87 chevy 1/2 ton P/U Step Side?

Has anyone changed afuel pump in an 87 Chevy 1/2 ton P/U,Truck ran fine for about 4 mnths then went to start it and all it would do is turn over,as soon as I put fuel down the carb it would start but then would die when fuel was exhausted.Any Sugs?|||fuel filter would be a better place to start.... could be a bad hose pumps going bad is rare but it does happen .... take off a line and try cranking after you change the filter.. should shoot a good spray its ok|||I recently changed the fuel pump on my 1500 1/2 ton Chevy pick up. Its no fun. Make sure you have all the fuel out. Then its take the mounting straps and the electric and the hoses off. The biggest problem you%26#039;ll have is the amount of fuel left. I would suggest getting a book so you won%26#039;t screw up so badly or get something out of order. Its not hard just bulky. When you get the tank off, get a brass drift and unloosen the top. Don%26#039;t use steel, it might spark and explode. Make sure all the dirt and stuff is off the hole where you unscrew it on top. Take your time.|||You could also remove the bed of the truck if you have the help to remove the bed. The tank is already out and the inside of it looks clean. there is debris floating around in it. It has sat for a while and this is obviously not the first pump they have installed I say they because i just bought the truck yesterday I%26#039;m lookin for a cheap simple solution.|||I%26#039;m sorry Guys but ..................DON%26#039;T TAKE THE TANK APART ! AND DON%26#039;T USE ACID ON IT ! If the stuff in the tank is just floating around then tip the tank up on one corner and siphon the gas out of it. Then all you have to do is either get a rag on a stick and wipe the tank clean or let it dry and vacuum it out. If the tank is rusty inside then it should go to a shop to be boiled out and then resealed inside with a special coating that is not Patroleum solluable. or just find a better tank.|||Glad I could Help ! huntnyou

97 Chevy 1500 5.7L Vortex will not start after changing fuel filter and pump.?

My truck started to start hard. Then it got to the point where I needed to prime the throttle body with gas to start. After a day, I would need to prime again. Then it would not start at all. I changed the fuel filter and now the fuel pump with the same problem. I find the spark from the coil wire is very weak and yellow/orange in color. Any clues?|||you may need to replace the coil or check the grounding points on your engine|||Most likely the fuel metering valve has went out. It is located under the upper intake (plenum). Rather expensive common problem, part list is around $400.|||if spark is orange, that is a sign of a weak spark or a large gap that the coil is trying to bridge. on many of the gm cars, if the computer does not see a spark it will not trigger the injectors. with out spark the computer may not send a signal to the fuel pump relay.

Then I changed the crankshaft position sensor, and it won%26#039;t crank. So do I need to replace an Engine Valve?|||Replacing parts based on guesses is a poor strategy as you are finding out. Pay for a proper diagnosis, it will be cheaper.....|||Check to see if the battery is any good and also check the alternator, try jumping it and if it starts and runs then check the alternator to make sure it is putting out at least 14 volts.|||no, you don%26#039;t need to replace anything until you run some tests. would you be happy if you went to a Doctor because you felt sick and him tell you that you need a kidney transplant without running any tests? Pull the upstream O2 sensor, and then try to start it. If it starts up you have a restricted exhaust, probably caused by a defective catalatic converter. (which could result from a miss fire) If this doesn%26#039;t work, then put a vaccum gauge on it and turn the engine over with the starter. I assume that by crank you mean start and run because nothing you say you have done would cause the engine not to turn over by the starter. if their is a valve train problem the vaccum gauge will fluctuate a lot, if the engine is a 4 cylinder, it may fluctuate a little anyway, a valve problem will cause it to fluctuate a lot.|||After listen ur complain. What's the cost of changing the fuel pump on a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer?

If it is the fuel pump, you%26#039;re looking at around $400.00 for the fuel pump plus the labor to replace it. Can changing a fuel filter cause the fuel pump to break?

I know it sounds stupid to me too, but I heard somewhere that if your fuel filter is changed it can break the pump because the pump is used to working with a clogged fuel filter. Is this true? I just don%26#039;t want to be worried that I could be messing up the fuel pump.|||No,changing and in line fuel filter will not cause the pump to %26quot;break%26quot;,

Its designed as a maintenence item that can be changed at certain intervals.

If the fuel pump goes out,it wont be because of changing the filter.|||Well if you don%26#039;t charge the fuel filter and your vehicle requires it yes you can because you will be running your pump dry and will overheat and die. A few years back shell was using an additive that ruined pumps on many Chrysler vehicles the reason was it would dry out the filters and the pumps would run dry overheat and die. Problem has been fixed but that shows that it can happen. The tranny thing someone mentioned that is crap, no matter what as long as you replace the old fluid you will always have a working tranny, even if you only change it once every 300,000 miles would let it go that long but get my point.|||%26quot;Sorry but that doesn%26#039;t Happen!%26quot;|||Its the opposite. Not changing your fuel filter will surely destroy your pump. Some brand new cars do not have a serviceable filter but if your does change it.|||I have heard that about tranny fluid.. if you run it way too long without changing it, and then change it your tranny goes (true) but never about fuel filters...

Unless some cars have the fuel filter built into the pup - but never heard of that either... specially since most are in tank these days...

Can a battery cause your fuel pump to stop working after changing fuel filter?

It will only pump with the engine cranking and while its running.

I%26#039;m confused by your question though. What was the original problem? The engine didn%26#039;t crank over from loose battery cables?....or.....It keeps dying because you really do need a fuel pump but tightened the battery cables?|||seems that you have a short, try using a multimeter in serial to check pump amperage, so you would know if is good or not, try also drop voltage on your battery.|||You make it sound like the truck has a electric fuel pump, There is a high pressure cut off on electric fuel pump,to stop the pump if the engine does not start. Why did you have to be messing with the battery cables. It now could be any thing. why was the engine running while you were tighten the cables, you could have burn out a fuse or something. start over, and check all. You can leak down the fuel pressure at a fitting on the rail, but if you do not know what you are doing you could start a fire. Does the battery still have a charge? If it does then the fuel pump should be working When you say the truck will not crank do you mean the engine will not turn over or it will not run? If it does not turn over, then recheck the cable clamp and battery. if it will not run, i can not help with what you have giving me to work with.|||No it can not.

You change the filter. But was the pump workihg correctly before?A clogged filter can kill a fuel pump.If you blow through the inlet of a good one, it has no restiction at all.

Why wont my truck start after changing machanical fuel pump? 1986 small block chevy?

I made sure the push rod was all the way up with grease but the gap wont close all the way up against the block. any ideas???|||have you checked the pick up tube coming out of the tank for being plugged up or the fuel filter. And one other thing is the fuel pump rod the same length as the one you have in the engine block to operate the pump. There might be different size rod but the other thing you can do is take some starting fluid and spray down in the carb and get the engine to start up in which while you do this it might get the fuel pump rod to operate the fuel pump to pump fuel. The rod rides on the cam lobe to make it pump the fuel.|||Take the pump back off and push the rod up into the block. Slide the pump back in and tighten the bolts evenly. If the rod stays up the pump will mount up flush with the block.|||the push rod is not all the way n u should b able to make it go up agaist the block b 4 bolting r u may have 2 get a spacer plate|||you may want to pull the pump back off and see if the rod is stuck and not coming down if it is up and not coming down it wont let the pump sit flush with the block and it wont pump fuel|||It sounds like the lever is on the wrong side of the cam. Remount the pump, slipping it in so there is spring resistance as you line up the bolts. You will also want to be sure the float bowl is full of gasoline or it will take an awful lot of cranking to get the pump to prime and the float bowl to fill enough to run the engine. The float bowl is filled through the vent, or better yet, by connecting a hose to the carburetor inlet and putting gas into the hose until it won%26#039;t take any more.|||could be the wrong pump check that its IDENTICAL
