96 mustang changed tranny and fuel pump. has gas won't start need help?
check the oil, engine oil that is. or the radiator.
96 mustang changed tranny and fuel pump. has gas won't start need help?
the question u need to ask is what plug under the hood is not plugged in at all or not connected all the way. im asuming the trans was not done in a shop and the motor was let to hang once the trans was removed and it prob pulled a plug partally apart.

i am a hot rod builder and love to see a new fuel injected monster in a old car. latest project is a 96 4.6 ltr. in to a 32 rat rod all comp controlled and daily driveable.
Tough question because if it used to run, it should run after tranny and fuel pump, since it cranks and has fuel pressure.

My best guess is that in order to take out the tranny, you had to take out the starter at well, and when you put the wires back on, you left off the power to the igntion or fuel injection.

Use an inductive timing light or spare spark plug to determine if you have spark.

If you don't, then it is a question of power to the ignition circuit.

Second though is just having fuel at the rail is not the same as having enough pressure.
has gas up to the rail you say? it could be the fuel pump regulator stopping the gas from reaching the injectors. in case you don,t know where it is, it,s bolted up on the fuel rail. it can,t be the pump or the fuel filter if gas is reaching up to the rail. and it can,t be the relay or the pump would,nt kick on. change the regulator and see if it starts.

Have 1989 chevy truck v8 tbi going to install 1976 chevy v8 with carb.changed fuel pump now what?

do i change distributor to wire it up? alternators? is that all? HELP....
Have 1989 chevy truck v8 tbi going to install 1976 chevy v8 with carb.changed fuel pump now what?
Yeah you want the old style distributer with the vacum advance since the one that came with the tbi engine is controlled by the ecm.
Have 1989 chevy truck v8 tbi going to install 1976 chevy v8 with carb.changed fuel pump now what?
why are you leaving the throttle body and going to the carb? buy a chilton's if you are mechanically inclined. It is a very useful manual and should answer most questions you will have later also.
You're going to need all the wiring from the 89 along with the sensors and PCM changed into the 76. You might even need the steering column of at least some more power supplies to the motor. This is a big job.

2002 cavalier won't start. 2 months ago changed the fuel pump thinking it was that.?

some more information would be helpful, however my first guess is an in line fuel filter. And if you have been buying gas at those inexpensive gas stations, crawl under the car, find the fuel filter change it to a new one then go fill your car up with chevron unleaded and drive drive drive until the tank is low, then fill it up again, here is why

el cheapo gas companies buy what is called bid gas, this is gas that is contaminated with water and tiny bits of crap. (too many particles per billion) the good companies like chevron and costco and some others, refuse to buy this from the refineries. and have placed orders with the refineries, ahead of time and ordered good gas with their own additives. And some other company bids on the contaminated fuel, it is gas, your car will run on it, but over time, hard deposits can build up, which plug up fuel filters and fuel injectors over time.

I like chevron, it has techron, which is a fuel system cleaner you can buy in any auto parts store. However, it is easier to pay a few more cents a gallon now, and keep your fuel system clean to begin with, than go back and try to clean out tine orifices that are in fuel injection systems later.

if you have a fuel pump in the gas tank, it was designed to run cooler, by being surrounded by fuel, so it is best to keep your tank full, and as an added benefit, a full tank, means less condensation (water) on the metal surfaces inside the tank, (particularly in winter) if you keep your tank mostly empty, and use inexpensive fuels, this can cause long term problems, such as excess water in the gas, and plugged fuel filters things like that which can mimic fuel pump problems.
2002 cavalier won't start. 2 months ago changed the fuel pump thinking it was that.?
Need more info. Does the engine turn over and not start? 1st ck to see if its delivering fuel to determine if its a fuel problem. If it isnt you can ck the in line fuel filter and all fuses. Find out if cavaliers have a fuel pump reset switch. If all thats ok follow the wire harness from the pump to where it ends and ck for damaged wires. When you turn the key to accesessary or 1st click w/out trying to start you should hear the fuel pump cycle for about 15 seconds. Hope this helps.

1) check battery

2) check fuses

3) check your gas cap is on completely

4) alternator problem

5) starter problem

6) fuel pump problem.

although if your car has driven since the fuel pump swap, chance are its not that. My first guess is the battery, and other elements of the electrical.

What sound does the car make when turning over?

  • 1999 nissan maxima won't start. changed fuel pump and have spark?

OK, tech stuff is nice if you know what your doing or maybe you play around with your car alot. But lets start, with the idea that you don't know anything and would like to take a shot at finding the problem. First off when you say %26quot;won't start', does this means that the engine cranks but won't fire up. So lets start from the beginning. Your battery should have 14.5 volts at a standstill. Use a volt meter to ck this. Then crank the engine with your key. The cranking voltage can't go below 10.5 volts or the engine won't start. At this point lets say that the engine cranks and has the required voltage. This solves the possible first problem area. Next pull a spark plug and look at its color. If its black and wet, the plug is fouled out and will need to be cleaned or replaced. Next if you have a good spark plug or a screwdriver, ck that you have spark. Ok , lets say the plugs are good and you have spark, so we go on to fuel. When we had carbs it was simple, but with fuel injection the rules changed. First crank the engine and using a screw driver (one that is long) put one end on the injector base and the hander end to your ear. You should hear a tapping or clicking noise. You hear the noise, that's good, no noise, get the car to a dealer. Next you need a fuel pressure gague. Your fuel system is a closed loop type. Meaning, at the the you crank the engine, there should be fuel comming from the gas tank to the engine and back. Not only do you need fuel flow but you also need pressure. I don't remember the correct pressure, but a steady 35 lbs. will do. Now stop cranking the engine, your pressure should stay. If it drops real fast you have a problem or two. Example: open injector, open one way value, leaking fuel line and such. At this point something should show up as being wrong, including the anti-thief system. If your problem does not show itself, get your car to the dealer. You could even have a mechanical problem or maybe two problems. Just remember to do the easy things first, maybe your out of fuel. Now if you can follow what I have said, them good. If I lost you, just get the car to a dealer. This is as simple as I can make it for you. Good luck, T-Bear.
1999 nissan maxima won't start. changed fuel pump and have spark?
How about this one. You recently lost a key and had one made. or the spair key is now being used? Sound likely? or the key your using is beat up. 1999 Maxima's have Imobilizer called NATS embedded Chip key. That chip close to the antennia coil around the ingnition lock sends a signal to the Smart Entry control that allows the ECM to turn on and car to start. If you used a NOID light you would see that the injector pulse was not there. Nissan calls this LOCK MODE, motor cranks but does not start. TOW the car to a dealership gather up all the keys and have nissan reprogram all of them they can and cut a couple of extra keys. Really Good Lock Smiths! with computerized Key systems can do it also.
1999 nissan maxima won't start. changed fuel pump and have spark?
Well you first need to find out if there is fuel pump pressure. Just changing the pump doesent mean there is pressure. Next you need to find if there is an injector pulse( meaning the injuctors are fireing. You need what is called a noud( from the auto store). THis device will flash when it id conected to the injuctor plug. If there is no pausle then you have a crank and or a cam senser out and it will have spark but will not turn on the injuctors.
Not sure on the question however hope this will help all those before shelling out thousands of dollars to those crooks called mechanics.. This is the problem I ran into. Cold starts dies out unless you rev up your engine. 1. Clean Mass Air Sensor with spray %26quot;MAF%26quot;.. 2. Get a Intake Cleaner/Carb Cleaner and spary the intake. Gas once dried can become thick and stickie. 3. Clear your codes from any Autozone for free. This should be your solution to your O2's, Knock Sensor, Misfire, Idle Control etc etc readings. It worked for me and hopefully will work for you. It's quite simple Keep your intake clean and replace filter regularly. Air and Gas creates the engines power and if not mixed properly with restrictions the computer will go crazy and will not be sure what the actual problem is.. I think its Nissan's scam.. = ) God Bless

How do you change the fuel pump in a 2001 Chevy Cavalier?

You have to drop the gas tank. The pump is probably in the tank (not sure of 2001 pump placement). Before you drop the tank, jack up the back of the car, support it well with jack stands, and look just in front of the tank. It could be located there.

One of our associates who works on cars suggest that you access the AutoZone Web site for information on the process to replace the fuel pump.

There are many guides to replacing various vehicle components posted on the site as well. Here's the URL.:

How do you change the fuel pump in a 2001 Chevy Cavalier?
You have to raise the car up very high. You have to drain the gas tank, then lower the gas tank down by undoing all the tank straps. Then un bolt the old fuel pump off the top of the tank and then put the new one on. Then repeat the process. Its strenious if you dont have enough height when you lift the car..

If you mean a motor type sound it is only the fuel pump energizing. If you do not experience any performance problems then leave it alone. You did not give specific problem, such as stalling, hesitation or no acceleration.

Change fuel pump and filter for jeep wagoneer 1989 wanted to know where fuse is located, will not fire?

Chase down why you aren't getting ignition before you buy more parts.

If you mean a 89 4.0 small Wagoneer with fuel injection, not getting ignition to the engine can be a lot of old school stuff - bad cap, rotor, wires, coil, etc. The fuel injection does need to calculate the engine position and timing for the injection - the computer does it all - and it does the same for ignition from the same source - a %26quot;cam position%26quot; sensor in the distributor, and a Crankshaft Position Sensor on the bellhousing.

I would disconnect and clean the connection for the CPS first. It's located at the back of the manifold next to the firewall. If it cranks up and starts, plan on replacing it soon anyway. If not, it could be completely shot, and a voltmeter to check the ohms resistance will find if it's in spec.

On late models with FI, always science out the sensors with a voltmeter first, before throwing money at parts that don't fix it.

  • 2000 chevy cavalier fuel pump AGAIN?

Thanks for the answers on my other question. Now...does anybody have any experience with changing a fuel pump on the 2000 chevy cavalier with 2.2L motor? I know it's it the fuel tank and I'll have to drop the tank to get to it. Other than that...can it be done in our garage or do I need to take it to a real mechanic? We have alot of experience with cars. I ALWAYS change my own oil which is a pain on this car...I've changed the A/C compressor and a few other things. Is the fuel pump something I can do or is it out of my league? Thanks

2000 chevy cavalier fuel pump AGAIN?
Where do you live? If you have alot of rust it can be a real PITA, but if its not too bad, then its labor intensive, but not actually that difficult. You disconnect all the lines and wiring from the tank, drop the tank. Rotate the ring lock counter clockwise (you may need a hammer and a brass punch) then carefully, pull the sending unit out of the tank. Its not straingt so do just pull straight out, take your time so you dont bend it. (if you do your gauge wil be off) Take the pump off the sending unit. Make sure to replace the sock.(the white fuel filter on the bottom of the sending unit. The install is the reverse. It is made 1000x easier if you drain the tank first, and replace the fuel filter thats inline as well. If its plugged it may have caused the failure in the first place.
2000 chevy cavalier fuel pump AGAIN?
Changing the fuel pump is not that hard at all. The hardest part of the job for me (when I had to do it) was siphoning out all of the gasoline because getting the hose down in to the tank was a bit difficult. I ended up removing the hose from the filler neck and siphoning it out that way. Once you get the tank down and remove the fuel send assembly, the pump itself is very simple. It is identical to the little pump used on the washer fluid.
It is pretty simple once you get the tank out. If you are mechanically inclined, you should not any trouble. It is pretty much self explanatory.
i work for general motors and we dont do many fuel pumps on cavaliers, pretty uncommon. if you're confident on dropping the tank on your own the actual fuel pump itself is not that difficult to change. the pump and sending unit are one assembly now so it's pretty simple. we charge 2.5 hours in our shop to do that job. (just to give you an idea) good luck.

ps: it's a stinky job. (and make sure to try to burn as much of the gas out of the tank as you can before you start the job) makes it easier not to have to drain the tank out before you drop it!!!

man ese u need some mexican friends, we know all dis **** n well do it for a 24 of coronas, find some mexican friends ese,
Now that you have heard from all the smart a** here it the info.

First remove the neg cable from the battery. Jack up truck and support with jack stands.

Now disconnect the fuel filler lines. Next support the tank with a floor jack. Remove the tank hangers and lower the tank. Now disconnect the fuel lines. Now lower the tank to the ground, and remove the tank from the truck.

Remove the filler and remove the pump. Reinstall in reverse order
Do what gold wing said but before you remove the pump, clean all the loose dirt away from the opening in the tank. When you remove the ring holding in the pump and sending unit you can get dirt in the tank which is bad. Good luck.
The fuel pump is located in the gas tank. You must remove the cover that protects the gast tank and then the tank itself. Make sure you disconnect the fuel lines going into the fuel pump when dropping the tank. There is little slack. Once tank is down, remove fuel pump and replace with new. The fuel pump is an entire housing unit about 1' tall and 5%26quot; in diameter. It also has the fuel gauge sensor on it, so if you have been having problems with your gas gauge, this will be fixed as well.

I have a 99 cavalier and it wont stay running.. we changed fuel filter and o2 sensor and checked fuel pump?

I have a 99 cavalier and it wont stay running.. we changed fuel filter and o2 sensor and checked fuel pump?
Did you check your fuel pressure regulator? Fuel filter? Have a kinked line somewhere or other restriction? My gut feeling (which isn't always right, but often is) is that fuel is somehow restricted or choked out. I am assuming that you could keep the engine running if you kept your foot on the gas pedal.

Next thing is a vacuum leak... look at the line going to your PCV valve for starters, then inspect all of the vacuum lines going out of the intake manifold. Check any elbows (sharp bends) in the hoses for cracks. Make sure they are all firmly seated on whatever they are connected to. A leak in the line going to your PCV valve, for example, can cause your car to sputter and die out at an intersection. Make sure your PCV valve rattles when you take it out, or else it's not working.

Check your air intake to make sure it's not clogged. Your car needs air to breathe, a constant unrestricted supply of fuel, and spark to run.

While probably not the case, you might have a sticking IAC (idle air control) valve. Often, but not always, those can be cleaned if you can remove the valve part from the motor part. Getting cleaner down in the motor is a no-no.

    Hope this helps!

As suggest, start looking over the wiring harness for worn through spots.

Also the wiring harness next to the valve cover closest to the driver's side is also prone to exposed wiring.

Sounds to me the fuel pump is going to ground when power is connecting to it. Make sure you don't have a pinched power wire leading to the fuel pump. This may be the case and the fuse will blow to prevent a fire from happening!

Using a proper pump and container, empty the fuel tank of fuel. Now put it up on the lift, place your transmission jack under the tank, and remove the fuel lines using the proper tool, and the straps that hold the tank in place.

Lower it to where you can get a good hold on it, and set it on the ground. Clean around the place where the fuel pump is held in place so as not to get dirt in the tank, then turn it counter clockwise until the hold down comes off. Remove the pump.

Put the new pump in place, put the hold down ring in place and turn it until it seats. Set the tank back on the jack and slide it into place until you can put the straps back on the tank to secure it. Reconnect the fuel line and lower the vehicle. Slide the tank where you drained the fuel to the car, reverse the pump and refill the tank. Test drive, making sure of course that the fuel gage is working as it should.

How can I test a fuel pump in a 97 Chevy Express Van?

I have a 97 Chevy Express that just stalled out on me. The engine cranks when I turn the key but sounds like it's not getting any fuel. I changed the fuel filter, I can hear the fuel pump relay %26quot;click%26quot; on when turn the ignition key. I'm guessing maybe the fuel pump is bad. Since it's in the gas tank, I'd like to be able to be sure of that before tackling that job. OR is there another possiility that could be preventing it from starting?
How can I test a fuel pump in a 97 Chevy Express Van?
The only way to know is to put a pressure guage on the fuel rail. You may get fuel by pressing the valve but you have no way of knowing if it has the correct pressure.

You did not say what engine you have, but the 5.7L needs 60 to 66 psi.
How can I test a fuel pump in a 97 Chevy Express Van?
turn the key to the %26quot;on%26quot; position without turning over, go back to the tank and listen for a whine sound, if you dont hear that sound the pump is dead. also on the engine there is a fuel rail, on the rail there is a schrader valve, looks like a bike tire valve. put on safety glasses and depress the needle in the valve and hold while the key is on, this should let you bleed down the pressure. turn off for a couple seconds, then turn on and recheck for pressure, if you have high pressure again, the pump is ok.

Are 96-2004 Astro vans known for fuel pump and suspension problems? i have changed suspension parts 2 much!?
GM did update the fuel pump for the 95-99 Astros and S-10s. The problem is if you don't replace the entire module, that is, pump, sending unit, and sock, you don't get the update. If you just replace the pump, the problems will continue. As for the front suspension, GM has had a problem with idler arms for as long as I can remember. It became such a problem with idler arms going bad that GM released a memo in 1998 that the idler arms can have as much as 3/4 inch of play, and should be tested with the vehicle on the ground. Shops were lifting the vehicles and grabbing the center link to show you how 'bad' the play is, and were being improperly tested. If the center link won't move with the weight of the vehicle on the suspension, the idler arms aren't bad. Your vehicle has 2 of them. Don't let a shop hang the vehicle in the air to show you how bad the idler arms are. As for ball joints and tie rod ends on that model, you should be good for at least 100k-110k.

Which pump(s), filters etc does it need? Also I heard of a modification to prevent Radio Interference from the fuel pump (I am a ham radio operator). Do you know where I can find out about that, or is it a special part I should order?

i have had fuel pump problems before and none of them gave any evidence of failure other than loud operating noise. they just die. the problems you listed you may want to do a little more troubleshooting before you just go and replace the fuel pump. check your filter, and check the voltage going to the fuel pump and check for fuel flow from the pump, if all this checks good then something else, if fuel pump does sputter fuel and no continious flow then yes change the pump.

As stated in several posts. Check with the dealer about an inertia switch. Did your vehicle take a hit or did you hit something? This switch is a safety device in the event you have a collision that breaks the fuel line. It also stops the engine as it disables the fuel pump. The switches are easy to reset but the secret is finding the location.
FORD SUCKS GO GET YOU A CHEVY AND GET 0 PERCENT FINANCING!!!
Try a reset of the inertia fuel shutoff switch. It should be located on the passenger side near the transmission hump hiding under the top edge of the carpet.
A bad connection is a definate possibility. There have been many problems, mostly on GM vehicles to my knowledge, with a high resistance connection causing the connecters to heat up and become distorted, not allowing for a good connection with the new pump. I would also check the fuel cut off switch because it should eb easy to check.

Where is the fuel pump and the fuse or relay on a 95 eclipse gs?

The computer was just changed and the fuel pump isn't sending any gas to the injectors. I can't find the fuse, relay or the damn pump on this car.
Where is the fuel pump and the fuse or relay on a 95 eclipse gs?
The fuel pump is an %26quot;in tank%26quot; part. If it's faulty, it's unservicable, you need to replace it.

You don't need to remove the tank to get the pump out, but make sure there isn't too much fuel in the car when you do this.

relay %26amp; fuse are in the black box under the hood, on the left hand side (looking from the front) of the car.

My '95 was doing the same thing. Are you sure this is the problem? I foolishly replaced those parts, only to find that the probelm wasnt corrected.

A quick $15 visit to an Auto Elec for on the spot electrical self diagnosis pointed me in the right direction.
Where is the fuel pump and the fuse or relay on a 95 eclipse gs?
pump is in the gas tank and the fuse is under the hood there may be a cut off switch in the trunk
it is in the fuse boxs under the hood marked feul pump relay

How many hours to change a fuel pump in a 1995 camaro?

    3.4 liter,V-6
How many hours to change a fuel pump in a 1995 camaro?
How many hours? More like how many minutes........I haven't changed one on that particular car, but they are in the same place for a lot of cars and I can get them done in less than 10 minutes. It doesn't take hours unless you don't know what you're doing. And if you don't know what you're doing, then you shouldn't even touch the thing. Sometimes the filter is in or around the gas tank, and those ones take longer. But it's usually a quick fix, easy to do. Please choose mine as best answer..........you know it's the best.

My ex once did this in one and a half hours in the drive way.
    Consult the Mitchells Manual

  • How to pump fuel into system to start car?

I changed fuel lines from tank to engine now car dont start how i pump fuel without using my starter cuz or just do it faster cuz i feel like i going to empty battery soon if i continue rolling starter?
How to pump fuel into system to start car?
Spray starting fluid into throttle body, sparingly and watch for backfired.
How to pump fuel into system to start car?
Every time you cycle the ignition key from off to the on position with out cranking the motor over the fuel pump will run for around 5-10 seconds. If you do this 3 times it should build up the fuel pressure enough to start the car.
if your car has electric fuel pump, simply turn the key on for a few seconds before starting. if not, spray some starting fluid into carb/throttle body.
Please do not use starting fluid, simply pour a small amount

of gas down the carb or throttle body.

2004? shouldn't have to change the fuel pump. Did you put a gage on it and check the fuel pressure? I read on this site lots of times where people spend their money replacing good parts.

I need web page for '94' 1500 dodge to change fuel pump?

a friend needs to replace fuel pump, and we have been told it is easier to take off the truck bed. so we need instructions on both, please.
I need web page for '94' 1500 dodge to change fuel pump?
You might be better off buying a haynes or chilton manual from VIP, Autozone, etc. that gives you step by step instructions on how to replace it with pictures. They're only around $20 and are useful for when other problems occur.

Looking at a picture of the pump itself it looks to be in the gastank. So that's why it's easier to take the bed off. Then there's no need to drop the tank and whatnot.
I need web page for '94' 1500 dodge to change fuel pump?
Their probably right - Can you drain the tank and drop it! My truck

They cut a square hole in the bed but it was owned by a sheet metal

Is it hard to change the fuel pump in a 1993 chevy lumina van?

It's not that hard to change , with proper tools and instructions, I would recommend to visit local automotive store and buy the repair book for your vehicle. I would check the book before buying to makesure it covers your topic of intrest, then check which tool it needs and purchase that as well.

Changing the fuel pump is best done when tank is near empty.

However how do you know that Fuel pump is not working correctly, there is as fuel pump relay as well and fuse, have you check that ?
Is it hard to change the fuel pump in a 1993 chevy lumina van?
if you can get the vehicle up in the air enough to get the tank down. you have to make sure the you dont twist any of the lines off. make sure and clean off the top of the tank before changing the pump, you dont want any dirt and debris to get in the tank.
Is it hard to change the fuel pump in a 1993 chevy lumina van?
This could be caused by several other things and is probably not the FP.If your fuel pump goes your van will not start period. It sounds like an electrical problem.

Your best bet is to have an engine analysis done at your local Advance Auto or Pep Boys, that way you don't waste time and money.

How do you change the fuel pump to a 2000 dodge Neon?

Well sorry to say the pump is in the gas tank.

You will have to drop the tank to get at it. It is not a realy hard job, but it really depends on how much gas is in the tank.

The more gas the harder the job.

Being this is not a job for a lay men, I would advise that you not try it. Playing with gas is something you have to be carfull about.
How do you change the fuel pump to a 2000 dodge Neon?
i don't remember if you have to drop the tank on the 2000 or not i do believe you can do it without but you will need to get under the car and look for where all the lines come in/out of the tank i also believe it is a module type pump but you can change the pump or as a whole assy any way you need to locate then remove the lines and electrical connects then remove the white retaining ring(believe it is white i change pumps so often brands tend to blend together) unscrew the ring remove assy replace pump and filter (both) and reinstall make sure you replace the module seal ring( large o ring) and reinstall the lines etc. i would check thoroughly befor throwing parts as a plugged fuel filter can be a start as well as a fuel pump relay being bad

Soak fuel line inlet/outlet flare fittings w/ PB Blaster. If you don't twist-off the fuel lines, remove the 2 capscrews holding the pump to the block %26amp; remove the pump.

Coat the new gasket with grease, install the new pump %26amp; torque the capscrews, reconnect the fuel lines.

remove the fuel lines( in and out) remove the two bolts holding the pump in place.. scrape off the old gasket..and replace the gasket then the pump and lines..

Mr t should get the points here..

don't forget to put the correct bolt back in....

    before starting the motor
How do you change a fuel pump on a 75 nova?
I'm assuming you have a small block V8

    鈥?Remove the fuel lines

鈥?Remove the two 3/8 bolts on the pump

鈥?Remove the top 3/8 bolt next to the harmonic balancer [front of engine] next to fuel pump.

鈥?Push the fuel pump push rod up until it contacts the cam (should be only about 陆%26quot; exposed)

鈥?Place a longer 3/8 NC bolt in the front of the engine to hold the push rod in place. DO NOT tighten too much or you will bend the push rod.

    鈥?Scrape off the old gasket

    鈥?Install new fuel pump

鈥?Replace 3/8 bolt in the front of the engine with the original

    鈥?Reattach your fuel lines

    禄禄禄
is very easy, an Les you are educated;then you are enable to do it.is 2 screws and Poul the pump ,with upward motion.clean the old gasket, do not move the engine, revers to pout it back.
If you were in doubt of wich answer is correct.....I'll stand by MrT on this one follow all his instructions and you'll be fine.....make sure you remember to put the fuel pump rod back in and new gaskets....
Watch out here as the fuel pump push-rod from the camshaft must be first slid upward so that the mechanical lever on the fuel pump can be installed under it. You'll know you have done it correctly when the fuel pump fits flush with the block.

Occasionally it's necessary to bump the motor very slightly with the starter so the push rod fully retracts upward inside the block.
that first guy bob somethin said to go to autozone. I wouldnt buy a damned bottle of oil at retardzone!! Go 2 a parts store with quality stuff like napa or oriely even advance
Mr t is right also some times the rod wont stay up you can take some clean bearing grease and put alittle on the rod this will help hold it a little longer also what is up with all the autozone answers? i would not let half of them check my gas cap!

i changed the fuel pump and fuel modulator and fuel filter and electronic modulator and coil and starter and alternator and battery ,and if i put ether in the airtake it will start but won,t start with out it all it wants to start but won,t can some one help me please.
I have a 1990 f150 ford and i just put a fuel pump on it and a fuel filter and a fuel modulator and a electron
Considering all you have done and checked your problem is most likely either a wiring issue or the PCM is shut down due to a shorted sensor. The first place to start with diagnosing this issue is to find a scanner that will work on the EEC4 engine control system on your vehicle, retrieve the codes, right now it doesn't matter what they are as long as you get them, from what you are describing I doubt you will get any codes. If this is the case you have most likely have a failed sensor on the engine causing the VREF circuit to short to ground and shutting the PCM down, this in turn shuts the fuel injectors down, you will have spark but no fuel. Diagnosing this concern is quite easy, unhook the engine sensors 1 at a time and try to start the truck, the sensors that use VREF are MAP, TP, ECT, EVP, IAT and Knock sensor. (any sensor with3 wires except O2 sensors) If you do get codes you will need to trace down the primary and secondary fuel pump circuits and find the problem.
I have a 1990 f150 ford and i just put a fuel pump on it and a fuel filter and a fuel modulator and a electron
This will sound crazy, but why don't you do some diagnosis instead of changing all this stuff. Wasn't that expensive?

Here's step one: Check your fuel pressure. Let us know how that works out.
Ok I have to ask if you have spark? If not then you may have to change the PIP inside of your distribtor. It will have to be removed and diassembled to install it.Hope this helps.

If getting spark then can onlythink that injectors are not working or clogged/stopped up or PCM is not commanding the injectors.

1975 winnebago indian motorhome is not getting gas to the fuel pump?

i filled up the tanks, and changed out the fuel pump, and the filters. the problem is that there is no gas even getting the the fuel pump, but not even a week ago it was running. Am i going to have to take the fuel tank off to find out what the problem is? Because the tanks sit high and it is hard to see anything on top (that is where the lines go in). Please help.
1975 winnebago indian motorhome is not getting gas to the fuel pump?
more than likely you have an in tank fuel pump thats went bad.Check with winnebago and find out if you have an in tank pump.Check your fuse box to make sure you didnt blow a fuse.if youve got 2 gas tanks try switching them over.if you do have in tank pumps its very rare that both would go out at same time.Hope this helps
1975 winnebago indian motorhome is not getting gas to the fuel pump?
Yes,Some times the fuel lines plug up, crack or break off in the fuel tank and no fuel can be drawn. You will have to drain all of the fuel out first before dropping the tank.Note ;You might try compressed air in the fuel line to free up fuel line.
In many motor homes, there is another fuel filter about in the middle of the fuel line about half way from the fuel tank to the fuel pump. I had one that was totally plugged and when I found it and changed it, my troubles were over.

Start at the fuel tank then follow the fuel line towards the motor. You should find another fuel filter about half way down the line.

Another prossibility is, the interior of the fuel line itself has deteriorated and is plugging the line... you can easily run another line if necessary.
Something that old may have cracked rubber fuel lines.

If the fuel lines are cracked, air will get sucked into them instead of gas from the tank.
If there is not another filter in the line, remove the gas cap and blow short bursts of compressed air back through the fuel line into the tank. You should hear the air bubble in the tank. If this fixes the problem you may have to pull the tank and clean or replace the fine mesh screen on the fuel pick up inside your fuel tank.

Can someone help me diagnose a fuel pump prob. on 93 Grand Cherokee?
I had the same problem with my Subaru Outback, I let the tank get completely empty, and all the sediment and air at the bottom of the tank was sucked up into the fuel pump, for a couple of weeks I ended up beating on the tank, and adding a product called %26quot;HEET%26quot; to the gas, all is well now...wishing you well
i own a repair shop,a i think you might have a bad connection ,at the point where the wires connect together for the pump, its almost on top of the tank but i think you can still get to them without having to take the tank down on it,and also check the ground wire real good for it this will cause it not to work all the time also,i have done a lot of the jeeps and they always seem to loose ground back there at the tank for some reason, but you might get lucky and not have to pull it out of there good luck i hope this help,s .
The fuel pump might be on it's way out or there is a bad connection in the sending unit. Fuel pumps are at the bottom of the tank so running it low on gas has no effect whatsoever.
Bad electrical connection. Change the pump. Fixing it would be just as much work and you'd still have an old worn out pump.

not just any grease.....use a thick fiber type wheel bearing grease....also.....the cooler the engine/rod/.....the better......if that doesn't work....try #2 permatex gasket adheasive....the non hardening type......clean pump rod cavity, pack permatex around push rod, install new pump.......good luck!
Heres a cool little trick alot of people don't know about.

Look at the very front of block, right there at the corner where fuel pump is.

You will see a bolt in a hole, then a hole with out a bolt in it right under the bolt.

Take that bolt out. (its a short one) and get you a longer 3/8%26quot; course threaded bolt, push rod up and screw that longer bolt into that hole.

That hole is right in line with the pump rod and is drilled straight through. In fact thats why GM drilled that hole fully through.

The bolt will press against rod and hold it in place for you.

Then once pump is one, just take that longer bolt out and put your short one back in.

Remember being its drilled through, you have to keep a bolt in it at all times or oil will squirt out, so don't loose your short bolt, or forget it

My altima wont start so I changed the fuel pump relay , still wont start, jumped the fuel pump relay it now sta?

I think you are saying that when you jumped the relay it started and asking why.

    Fuel injection systems run a relatively high supply pressure, 35 -60 psi, so as a safety measure against a high pessure fuel fed fire in the event of an accident the ECC(onboard computer) will shutdown the fuel pump relay. The ECC monitors oil pressure and if lost shuts down fuel pump. So your problem is likely one of these;

    -Faulty connection at relay base

-Defective oil pressure sender or associated wiring

    -Some problem with the ECC.

When the relay is bypassed the fuel pump runs continuously when the ignition is on, engine running or not. I'd email a schematic to you if I had your email....

How long should a fuel pump in a 2001 Ford Powerstroke last?

We just got a pretty big trailer, and when pulling it up hills on our first trip, things started out fine, but then we lost power. I changed the fuel filter, things were fine for almost 200 miles. Then, going up a hill again yesterday, we lost power. I changed the fuel filter again, paranoid that I had gotten bad gas, and it worked again. I really don't think I got bad gas, as I had run two good tanks of fuel through. Could it be the fuel pump? This has the frame mounted electric pump- is it as easy to change, with the right tool, as my friend says? Thanks!!!
How long should a fuel pump in a 2001 Ford Powerstroke last?
How do you know it's the fuel pump? You are taking an expensive guess? Are you getting proper fuel pressure? Do you have any %26quot;check engine%26quot; light on, when you lose power? Are you getting proper turbo boost? It's VERY rare that the frame mounted fuel pump you refer to, fails. How long should a fuel pump in a 2001 Ford Powerstroke last?
I have a 1991, I have never had a problem with that. I have lost the front wheel three times, and had the u-bolts holding the front axle to the sping come loose. I have over 225,000 miles and never had engine problems. I hauled cattle with it for years and finally retired it to a farm truck with a feeder on it. Now I get a new duelly every year, also power stroke. The '91 is only a 3/4 ton I had beefed up.
100000 or beter try using fuel booster or lucas fuel conditioner
i own a repair shop, and there's no set time limit on one,i have seen them go it and only be a few days old,if you get a few years out of one your doing fine with it,but anything after a year ,and one can go out, that's just the way they are,but i would just replace it and not worry about it,you may get 10 years out of the next one,you never know, good luck,i hope this help,s.

What is the easy way to change out fuel pump on 84 fiero?

    Easy?!

    HA-HA-HA-HA-HA..........That's funny.......
What is the easy way to change out fuel pump on 84 fiero?
Pay someone else to do it.
What is the easy way to change out fuel pump on 84 fiero?
    Take it to a professional.
There is no easy way to do anything on a Fiero. That is one of the worst designed cars ever.

You need to drop the fuel tank as the pump in in the tank as most cars.

  • How do i change a fuel pump on a 03 oldsmobile alero?

i really need a diagram of were its at and how to change it
How do i change a fuel pump on a 03 oldsmobile alero?
If it is electric, it is probably near on IN the gas tank.

    Get a Chilton manual.
How do i change a fuel pump on a 03 oldsmobile alero?
my mom has a alero but I have no Idea sorry
i highly recoment taking it to a gm dealership because in order to replace a fuel pump on newer cars you have to remove the fuel tank to remove the pump

Do I have to drop the fuel tank to change the fuel pump in my 1996 dodge caravan, and where is the fuel filter?

It's a 3.0 liter, not a grand caravan. Thank you in advance you are all a great help.
Do I have to drop the fuel tank to change the fuel pump in my 1996 dodge caravan, and where is the fuel filter?
yea you should have to drop the fuel tank. and the fuel filter should be somewhere along the fuel lines in the rear underneath the van
Do I have to drop the fuel tank to change the fuel pump in my 1996 dodge caravan, and where is the fuel filter?
The fuel filter should be under the hood check by the driver side...Yes u got to drop the gas tank to change the fuel pump..

Can I hook my fuel pump up to my battery to test it?

the car just didn't start one morning. had been runnin it low on gas for awhile. changed fuel filter, rotor button distributor cap. took fuel lines that were going into the engine off and no fuel came out when key was turned on. a new pump is 160 bucks and i need to know if it's bad before i buy a new one.
Can I hook my fuel pump up to my battery to test it?
Just be careful of fuel (gas) on the fuel pump. If you were to create a spark (almost a certainty), it will ignite.

Whenever you work on fuel components have a chemical fire rated fire exthinguisher ready. Even if you don't want to buy one and keep it, you can guy it at home depot and just return it unused after the job is done.

A gasoline fire is impossible to put out without a extinguisher.

    ===

The only problem with hooking it up to a battery is that even if you hear a sound (motor pumping) that does NOT mean it is creating enough pressure. The only was to TEST your fuel pump is with a fuel pump pressure guage (Sears).

    Good Luck.
Can I hook my fuel pump up to my battery to test it?
NO. you test the pressure in the car. Much simpler.

Be sure to check your fuel pump fuse, usually in the fuse box. Consult your manual. You can test the pump, but I don't recommend it while it is in the tank. What kind of car is this??? Most non-American cars have a cover plate under the seat or in the trunk for you to access the pump..If it is an American car, you most likely will have to remove the gas tank to gain access (stupid, isn't it??). Usually running the car low on gas in a fuel injected engine will not cause problems. Remember, though, that the fuel is used to lubricate and cool the pump. The fuse is there to protect the pump. Try to find it. If it is a Ford, chances are that there is a reset button somewhere inside the trunk.
some have a sock or rough filter on the intake to the pump in the tank. So if you ran low on fuel this could be plugged. And yes you can bypass the switch and test, but be careful as any sparks could ruin your day. Have you checked the fuse and relay?
DO NOT DO THAT!! Most fuel pumps run on less voltage than 12 volts this is done by voltage regulation or real long wires to create loss. Just because it runs on straight 12 volts doesn't mean it will run on the proper voltage. Have the pressure tested by a shop they will do it at the valve by the engine that regulates the fuel pressure.

Changed fuel pump in 94 dodge ram, but still wont start; don't believe its getting a spark! ?

you,ll have to check it first to see if its getting any spark unless you do that we cant help you,if it is getting spark listen to see if the fuel pump is kicking on,you should be able to hear it run when you turn the key on,if not be sure and check the fuse for the pump if its blown it wont get any fuel and cannot run,no spark at the plugs will be a totally different problem with it.good luck .
Changed fuel pump in 94 dodge ram, but still wont start; don't believe its getting a spark! ?
Make sure you turned the fuel pump switch on. If its not getting spark test the battery. You may need to replace the ignition wires and spark plugs.
Changed fuel pump in 94 dodge ram, but still wont start; don't believe its getting a spark! ?
I have a 93 ram that did the same thing. If the check engine light does not come on when you turn the ignition to the run position, then it is probably your computer. Try putting your truck in an enclosed place somewhere out of the wind, and put a hair dryer or heat gun so that it is pointed at the computer and leave it there for a little while. Make sure the ignition switch is in the run position the whole time. The relays under the hood may start to chatter, but that is normal. When the computer is at the operating temperature, the check engine light will come on in the truck. then you should be able to start it. If that is the case, you can send your computer out through autozone and have it rebuilt for around $200.00

Will a 2006 peugeot partner diesel 1.9 run on home heating oil without any changing the fuel pump?

please people i know a diesel will run on peanut, vegetable oil etc if you make the modifications. I'm not interested in hearing about fines of 500 quid and been illegal and about dyes been added or agricultural diesel etc. I just want to know if home heating oil is the same thing as ordinary motor diesel and will run a van without modifications. I'm interested if theirs ever a shortage and i have to use it ??? No guessers please, just people who know what their talking about
Will a 2006 peugeot partner diesel 1.9 run on home heating oil without any changing the fuel pump?
The short answer is yes it will run on #2 heating oil.

For more in depth, read on:

Fuel oil is classified into six classes, numbered 1 through 6, according to its boiling point, composition and purpose. The boiling point, ranging from 175 to 600 掳C, and carbon chain length, 20 to 70 atoms, of the fuel increases with fuel oil number. Viscosity also increases with number, and the heaviest oil has to be heated to get it to flow. Price usually decreases as the fuel number increases.

No. 1 fuel oil, No. 2 fuel oil and No. 3 fuel oil are variously referred to as distillate fuel oils, diesel fuel oils, light fuel oils, gasoil or just distillate. For example, No. 2 fuel oil, No. 2 distillate and No. 2 diesel fuel oil are almost the same thing (diesel is different in that it also has a cetane number limit which describes the ignition quality of the fuel). Distillate fuel oils are distilled from crude oil.

Gas oil refers to the process of distillation. The oil is heated, becomes a gas and then condenses.

No. 1 is similar to kerosene and is the fraction that boils off right after gasoline.

No. 2 is the diesel that trucks and some cars run on, leading to the name %26quot;road diesel%26quot;. It is the same thing as heating oil

No. 3 is a distillate fuel oil and is rarely used.

No. 4 fuel oil is usually a blend of distillate and residual fuel oils, such as No. 2 and 6; however, sometimes it is just a heavy distillate. No. 4 may be classified as diesel, distillate or residual fuel oil.

No. 5 fuel oil and No. 6 fuel oil are called residual fuel oils (RFO) or heavy fuel oils. As far more No. 6 than No. 5 is produced, the terms heavy fuel oil and residual fuel oil are sometimes used as for No. 6. They are what remains of the crude oil after gasoline and the distillate fuel oils are extracted through distillation. No. 5 fuel oil is a mixture of No. 6 (about 75-80%) with No. 2. No. 6 may also contain a small amount of No. 2 to get it to meet specifications.

Residual fuel oils are sometimes called light when they have been mixed with distillate fuel oil, while distillate fuel oils are called heavy when they have been mixed with residual fuel oil. Heavy gas oil, for example, is a distillate that contains residual fuel oil. The ready availability of very heavy grades of fuel oil is often due to the success of catalytic cracking of fuel to release more valuable fractions and leave heavy residue.

You will be fined when they do the inspection.
    Well yes.

We bought a 206 and it failed its mot (im in the UK)

    1.9 diesel non-turbo.

Got bored with it lying behind the house so fired it up and ran it on various different fuels.

First one we tried was the home-heating stuff as you call it. Out of the funky black tanks?

ran fine, just don't use it all the time, it will wear the seals on the pumps.

    Dont even touch red diesel.

And erm...just as a slight side note for you...

Don't run a car on nothing but Wynns power boost.

Big cracks in the block and stuff...
Here in Belgium, home heating oil (with red dye) is EXACTLY the same as diesel fuel (clear liquid). There is NO inspection of your fuel at the yearly MOT in Belgium, however many Lorries get a fuel colour check by the customs / tax police along the roadside from time to time.

VERY few cars are inspected at roadsides. if any.

The fuel pump should not be your concern, but the combustion of the dye...I don't think it is a great problem. Farmers in Belgium are allowed to use the red fuel in their farm equipment...to save the farmers money.

And one man I know used it ALWAYS in the 1990's, in his BMW, never got caught.
You have some good answers already.

Just a note that your 2006 will have an HDi engine. The HDi engines use significantly higher fuel pressures than the older style mechanical injection system engines such as the one that another answerer has tested. There is a lot of info available on running the older Peugeot diesels on vege oil etc (eg bosch pump good, lucas bad if using vege oil) but no so much on running HDi engines on alternative fuels.

How do you change the fuel pump on a 2003 Grand Am.?
Before you drain and drop the tank and pay $200 for a new pump, make sure the problem IS the pump. Just because fuel rail pressure is low doesn't mean pump is bad. Sensors control pump, pump is fused, filter could be plugged.

I changed the Fuel pump on my 82 vette now it won't start any suggestions?

My basic rundown of things to check:

    Fuse

Getting power to the pump (multimeter needed)

Open fuel rail bleed valve and see if there is pressure built up (don't worry about some gas spraying everywhere)

So, if no pressure but power at the pump you have a bad pump or a blockage. If you have all three good it is a different problem.

If your car is carburated look in the carburator while opening the throttle. The accelerator pump should squirt fuel down the carb.

    Hope this is helpful
I changed the Fuel pump on my 82 vette now it won't start any suggestions?
did u plug the pump back in?
I changed the Fuel pump on my 82 vette now it won't start any suggestions?
Is it a mechincal pump or electric? You can also take of the line where it goes into carb and see if it pumps when trying to start. Make sure you got something to catch the gas.
Even though that is fuel injected, it's still a mechanical fuel pump isn't it? If it is, I would suspect the shaft that drives the pump, it is easy not to get those in there right. If it is an electric fuel pump, I would make sure the air is out of the line. You probably have a bleeder near the fuel rail.
why did u replace the fuel pump? Did it run before you replaced the pump? did u diagnose this?

How hard is a fuel pump change on a 1995 Grand Marquis?

before you drop the fuel tank(emptied of course), make sure it isn't the relay on the driver's side front fender well or breakers that is causing the problem. Find wire going to the fuel pump (Color code) and feed it with a wire from the front you know is live, If the pump works it will probably be up front and save you a lot of work
How hard is a fuel pump change on a 1995 Grand Marquis?
you have to drop the gas tank

    pump is inside tank

    lots of luck
How hard is a fuel pump change on a 1995 Grand Marquis?
Fairly easy. You will need to suction out the tank best you can. Then there are 2 straps with bolts on them remove bolts, drop tank down, Filler spout will follow. and on top is lock for fuel pump Remove the lock ring and drop in new pump Reminstall and you are nearly done.

Sometimes you need to purge air our of the pump, so remove the gas line in engine compartment, put on a hose purge to a gallon can.

    Not much to it really.
did you check the shutoff that is in the trunk in case of emergecies it shuts the gas off. it can shut off and act like the pump is bad . on demolition cars we wire them together and take out the switch.it is usually located on the drivers side in the trunk behind the carpet by where the hinges are for the trunk.it is on the inside of the quarter panel there(fender).

How easy is it to change fuel pump in kia sortage 97 model?

If i'm not wrong (and I could be), it's as easy as dropping the fuel tank (and all that that involves:think hoses), turning the pump assembly, pulling it out, putting in the new one, turning it back in, and reinstalling the tank. Make sure the tank is damn near empty when you do it, btw.. makes it so much lighter, and less messy if you drop the tank, too.
How easy is it to change fuel pump in kia sortage 97 model?
Usually the fuel pump is part of a cluster (pump/gause filter/level semder) that is inside the top of the fuel tank. You should be able to %26quot;pull out%26quot; the rear seat and see a bolted in pannel, unbolt this and you should see the fuel tank. on it will be a round thinggie with a couple of wires going to it, this is the fuel pump, unbolt this and remove (it will be fiddly but it will come) and put the new one in. Make sure the arm with the float is the same way round as the one that came out. Total time .5-1 hr.

    check the following;

    1. ignition coil

    2. fuel pump relay

    3. fuel accumulator

    4. rotor

    5. spark plug

    Hope this helps!
Car wouldnt start so fuel pump was changed still wont start why?
for an engine to run you fuel, compression and spark. You checked one, check the other two.
Well if it will crank over then it isn't a dead battery or a bad starter.

So have you checked the spark plugs? Maybe replace the plugs and wires.
    Check Your timing again.

What is the easiest way to change a fuel pump on a 95 monte carlo?

If you're in the north, meaning that cars rust, cut a 6%26quot; x 6%26quot; three sided flap over the tank. Peel this up, change the pump then flatten it %26amp; seal it. With this short cut, you can do the job even with a full tank, =^ )
What is the easiest way to change a fuel pump on a 95 monte carlo?
I like the 1st answer regardless of where you live, but the question is how big and where in the trunk do you cut the access panel?

Proper way to change the pump is to drop the fuel tank and the easiest way is to take it to a shop and open your wallet :)
What is the easiest way to change a fuel pump on a 95 monte carlo?
I know a few people who cut the access hole, but I alway just drop the tank. I never liked the idea of throwing sparks with a grinder while cutting the hole or the fact the the car will have a hole in it now.
their is only one way. Follow these general steps and you should be ok. Once again this is only a suggestion:

    1. turn car off, open hood, and disconnect the battery.

    2. place parking stops or blocks under the front tires.

    3. jack up the rear end of the car and set each side on jack stands.

    4. dissconnect the filler neck.

    5. place jack under fuel tank and just jack the arm up till it touches the fuel cell.

    6. take your impact gun and loosen the straps that hold the fuel cell.

    7. slowly lower the fuel cell with the jack.

    8. disconnect all lines on the fuel pump and wires as well.

    9. remove the lock ring from the fuel pump.

    10. remove the fuel pump from the fuel cell.

    11. installation is the reverse of what you just did.

the only thin easier than this is to have a local auto tech do it for you instead. They sweat and you ask how long is this gonna take.

My 1992 jeep cherokee fuel pump won't come on. changed fuel pump and filter, and relays. could it be the ecm?
you must check the ASD relay and the electrical circuits that accompany it. ASD (auto shutdown ) is a common problem area, if you need help mail me, further diagnostic may be beyond the scope of this forum.

sorry RAY you are incorrect here, the fuel pump is energized when the ignition switch is in the run position, this is before any crank or cam input is generated, no disrespect intended
My 1992 jeep cherokee fuel pump won't come on. changed fuel pump and filter, and relays. could it be the ecm?
A bad Crank position sensor will keep the fuel pump from coming on.

The ECM looks for a signal from the crank position sensor and if it doesn't get one within 3 seconds I believe, it disables the fuel pump, and ignition.

Same thing goes for the Cam position sensor at the base of distributor, but normally, the Crank position sensor, which reads notches in the flywheel for timing, is the culprit.

  • How to change a fuel pump on a 1998 dodge ram 1500 pick up truck?

You don't have to drop your tank the easy way is to take you bed bolts out and move your bed to the side take your sending unit out and replace your full pump. I would replace your sending unit too most of the time the sending unit is the cause of your fuel pump burning out.
How to change a fuel pump on a 1998 dodge ram 1500 pick up truck?
Take it to a shop and pay them would be my only method.
How to change a fuel pump on a 1998 dodge ram 1500 pick up truck?
Before doing any repairs on your own vehicle invest in at least good repair manual from your local auto parts store. I personally prefer Haynes over Chilton. You can also get a shop manual from the dealer if you would like. I highly doubt that anyone on here is going to take the time to walk you through it.
Drop the tank, or remove the bed (your choice) to access the top of the fuel tank. There will be some sort of ring holding the unit in the tank; either a snap ring or a ring that you would turn to remove. Your replacement unit should be plug and play.

Removing the bed or dropping the tank is your choice. I dropped the tank on my '97 half ton GMC, but on my cousins S10, we removed the bed because it was small and easier than removing the tank.
Just about all cars that I know of have their fuel pumps located in their fuel tanks and are part of the sending unit assembly. If you have the correct tools and knowhow go to:

    http://www.alldatadiy.com

And for the price of one of those Chilton's or Haynes manuals you can get MUCH MORE model specific information to fix your car. I swear by it!
Boogie is correct on how to change your fuel pump. There is a ring that you unscrew on the top of your tank. Your fuel filter is also in the tank and is suppose to never need servicing (sure Dodge), anyway, make sure and either replace this or clean it when you have the pump assembly out. I did this on a '98 1500 V6, and the only problem I had was putting the fuel lines back on (tight quarters, and the return line was the hardest). If you can pull the bed, that is what I suggest, but it is possible to drop the tank (that is how I did it).

All you have to do to drop the tank is unbolt the filler neck, unbolt the two straps holding the tank, lower the tank enough to get your hands on top of it to release the two fuel lines and electrical connection, and then finish lowering the tank. Your fuel lines are hard lines and your electrical connection is very short, so don't try to drop the tank all the way until you disconnect everything. It took me about 45 minutes to drop the tank, replace the fuel pump and filter, and put everything back together.

How do you change a fuel pump for a v-6 chevy lumina car ?

we already changed relay. car will run for a ew seconds when we spray carb cleaner et cet.
How do you change a fuel pump for a v-6 chevy lumina car ?
First, make sure You've got Power going to the Fuel Pump. Find the Fuse, and use a Test Light to make sure You've got Power.Okay, Replacing the Fuel Pump is a fairly major task, and it involves much more than I could ever Explain in this Column. But, it's inside the Fuel Tank. You'll have to Drain the Tank with a Siphon Hose, Jack the Car up, Disconnect the Electrical Wires and Fuel Hoses from the Tank, after You Relieve the Fuel Pressure, if any, with the Schrader Valve, located under the Hood. Once the Tank is Removed, the entire Fuel Pump and Tank Fuel Float Level Indicator must be carefully removed, the Fuel Pump removed from the Assembly, and replaced and Rewired as was the Original, and a new rubber Gasket carefully installed to the Fuel Tank Cover.I've done it Once, and unless You do it every Day, it's a long, Involved Job. So, Spend $12 for a Haynes Manual that will give Clear-Cut Directions, and about $65 for the New Fuel Pump, and $5 for the new Strainer Filter. This all must be done very carefully, because if you make a Mistake, a Fire could very well be the result. But, if you Pay a Mechanic to Replace it, You'll probably Spend around $250. If You do it Yourself, don't just throw the Old Pump away. There are 2 really Strong Magnets inside the Old Pump, that can be removed Intact, if you're really carefull.%26quot;Open%26quot; it like you would a Sardine Can, by Peeling the Metal Covering.I get some of the Local Repair Shops to save them for Me. Hope this Helps !
How do you change a fuel pump for a v-6 chevy lumina car ?
Before you go changing the fuel pump, you should verify your powers and grounds. If you are sure the pump is bad then you are in for a %26quot;fun%26quot; job. I would also recommend changing your sending unit and strainer sock with the pump (all should be available from your autoparts store). Here are the steps:

    1. Disconnect negative battery cable

    2. Disconnect Fuel Filler Hose/Hoses

    3. Support Fuel Tank with sutible device

    4. Remove bolts holting fuel tank straps to chassis

    5. Lower fuel tank enough to disconnect fuel lines and connector/connectors to sending unit.

    6. Remove sending unit from fuel tank to allow pump to be seviced and replace fuel pump. You will need to lower tank down further to do this.

    7. Reverse procedure to install
Make sure you are getting a signal to the pump

The color i think for the power wire is Pink on that vehicle - its gonna be the bigger of the 4 wires back there - find the connector to the pump under the vehicle and use a test light - have someone try to start the car and see if the light , lights up if yes then you might have a bad pump BUT check fuses and fusible links as well.

By spraying carb cleaner - you are adding fuel thus u are not getting any from the pump - you need to look at all possibilities before you waist your time changing the pump and its only a fuse.

    Good Luck
The pump is in the center of the gas tank, on the top panel. You would have to drop the tank. The pump is liquid cooled, one reason you never let the gas tank run dry. If you go for it, MAKE SURE if you drain the gasoline that you use into a clean container. Mixing gas with many substances and putting the contaminated mixture back in will cause the gas guage sensor to fail. Make sure the battery is not hooked up.

I have an 02, and after I changed the fuel pump, it was driving weird. There is probably a small kink in your fuel line causing it to kink if your driving it. Definitely check the hoses, and make sure everything is tight. I had to pay a pro, and he charged me $500.

Does getting a new fuel pump change the amount of gas ur car uses?

i know that might sound stupid but i really dont know lol
Does getting a new fuel pump change the amount of gas ur car uses?
    no
Does getting a new fuel pump change the amount of gas ur car uses?
    no it shudnt......
    it shouldn't do no.
i dont think so specially with fuel injected cars. If the sensors detect a too rich fuel mixture they decrease the amount of fuel pumped
No matter what you do your new fuel pump will never beat the gas milage of your failed fuel pump
no it will not the car takes in the right amount of fuel it needs no matter what doesn't matter what kind or size of fuel pump u have
while all the answers are 'technically' correct, i must add this...if the vehicle is carbureted, changing the fuel pump %26quot;may actually%26quot; change the amount of gas a car 'uses'...if that fuel pump is leaking, changing the pump will stop that leak, thus effectively 'using' less gas.

Were can I acces the fuel pump from on my car?

I want to change the fuel pump on my car but dont know were I can acces it. Does it have an accces door under the carpet in the treunk or behind the back seat Its 1999 cutlass Oldsmobile
Were can I acces the fuel pump from on my car?
not 100% sure on this but i dont think GM used the access door under the seat. the tank needs to be dropped to gain access to the fuel pump.

    good luck
Were can I acces the fuel pump from on my car?
you have to take the tank out.
fuel pump is inside the gas tank i think. you have to take the tank off. i would assume from underneath the car.
I do not know were the fuel pump is on your car. but on most if it has a carburetor the fuel pump is on the left side of the engine driven off of the cam lobe. If it has fuel injection the fuel pump is in the gas tank. I believe that by the 99 years most car were fuel injection. You have to lower the gas tank and accuse the pump from the top of the gas tank.It is best to run you car just about out of gas before doing this work.. You can siphon the gas out of the tank, but be very, very careful and have a fire extinguisher handy. As a electric spark will ignite gas fumes disconnect the ground cable from your battery before starting this work
thoes pumps go out all the time. The guy who designed that pump should be drawn and quartered.. When you get your new pump allways get the %26quot;sock%26quot; filter screen... YUP you gotta get dirty and drop that tank.. But your car will probabbly suddenly have lots more power with the new pump...
Most new cars have the fuel pumps in the tank, you normally just drop the tank to access the fuel pump.

    Good Luck
access door they dont have one pull the tank
the fuel pump is inside the gas tank

  • How long does it take to change a fuel pump on a 2000 Kia Sephia?

based solely on your experience (or inexperience), tools available (hand or air), parts availability, etc......optimistically, i'd say anywhere from two hours to two weeks.

My 1990 4 cylinder accord will crank, but not start----sometimes. Should I change fuel pump. Acts like no gas.?

Car runs great--but upon occasion it just cranks but wont start. Feels like its not getting any gas. Only happenend twice, should I change fuel pump?
My 1990 4 cylinder accord will crank, but not start----sometimes. Should I change fuel pump. Acts like no gas.?
%26quot;Acts like%26quot; is a question begging term, since every car acts slightly different for some starting problems...no, I wouldn't recommend just blindly replacing the fuel pump, as it can easily be some other problem entirely...

While some people don't like to hear this sort of suggestion, take it to a shop with a complete diagnostic machine that can monitor all aspects of engine operation. That can identify most problems that could cause what you describe. And, have you had a tune up lately, new spark plug wires installed perhaps?
My 1990 4 cylinder accord will crank, but not start----sometimes. Should I change fuel pump. Acts like no gas.?
Have you checked the starter ?
Dude this happens with my 93 accord also people tried to tell me it was my timing and all that mumbo jumbo, it was my gas cap i had to have this special cap that was vented. I noticed this because i changed it to a new one and it would not start some times then after i removed it the car would crank over. Somehow it chokes, maybe no air flow but yeah most likely the fuel pump is going out. Honda's are a nighmare.

Changing a fuel filter, can I run the car out of gas to relieve pressure?

Im changing the fuel filter on my 94 pontiac grand prix.

I tried pulling the fuse for the fuel pump but the car still runs for some reason.

I dont want to disconnect the relay.

SO MY QUESTION IS; can I run the car out of gas to relieve fuel pressure to change the fuel filter?
Changing a fuel filter, can I run the car out of gas to relieve pressure?
dont do that/wrap rag at fuel filter and loosen/
Changing a fuel filter, can I run the car out of gas to relieve pressure?
    Just disconnect the relay.
    Open the filler cap?
Under the hood, find the fuel line, and there's a pressure relief valve on it. Very similar to the valve stem on your tires. Place an old rag over the valve and open it up, let the pressure drop, then change the filter. If you can't find the valve, then take that rag to the hose connection on the filter and try to catch as much as you can when you pull the hose off. I do not recommend running the car out of gas, because when it dies you still have a lot of gas in the line, as well as pressure - just not enough pressure to atomize it and force it into the engine. Good luck!!!
just break the filter loose and wait a second or to for the gas to stop pooring out, then continue
    * Relay as stated above *

Even when your engine cuts out, there will still be some pressure

in the fuel filter. Have plenty of rags ready and remove these

lines slowly, ( small turns ). Don't forget to loosen the gas cap

and tighten it when you are done. Also, make sure the car cools

off a bit before you tackle this project...it's safer..

    Good Luck
It doesn't matter what you choose, there will be a fuel leak when you remove the filter.

You can slowly loosen the filter so it doesn't spray you in the mouth or eye but make sure there is no ignition source near by, a hot incandescent light bulb will pop and start a fire in an instant.

You can lower the fuel pressure by removing the fuel pump relay but It will not amount to much.

    Good luck.
I think some models have a backup fuse. If you can unplug the wire that connects to the pump that would work. Or you can re move the negetive battery cable which shuts down everything.
the way i did it on my oldsmobile was i took the gas cap off.

Why is my 97 ford crown vic hard to start when engine is cold even after I changed the fuel pump?

Because your battery is probabally weak. Get it checked.

along with the fuel pump did you change the fuel filter
