If u change your fuel pump and it still dont fire what should u check next?

i have a lincoln ls and i change the fuel pump but its not firing what should i check next
If u change your fuel pump and it still dont fire what should u check next?
If you have fuel injection...

1) DO this ONLY when the engine is COOL !!!....

There is a valve that looks like the valve on the tires where you put the air in... this is bleeder for the fuel pressure. It is located on the fuel line at the top of the engine, before the line gets to the injectors. Remove the cap and push on the little needle ( as if you were going to let the air out).

If you see fuel spray out, then you have fuel pressure and the fuel pump/ relay works. Note, if it does not spray, have someone try starting the engine and someone else push on this valve at the same time. If there is still no spray, then you have a fuel pressure problem... Check that you can hear the fuel pump running, check the fuel pump relay, and last...check that the fuel filter is not clogged up. Also check the fuelpump fuse !

2) IF you DO HAVE PRESSURE, then take the ignition control module out and take it to O'Reily's, Autozone, or Pep Boys. They can check if it is good or not.

3) if none of these work, Then get a spark plug tester and see if you can see a spark.

If you see a spark, then you may have a bad CAMSHAFT sensor. If you DON'T see a spark, then you may have a bad CRANKSHAFT sensor. The camshaft sensor tells the fuel injectors when to spray... if this is bad the injectors won't work. The crankshaft sensor tells the sparkplugs to fire, if this is bad, none of the sparkplugs will work.

A fuel pump is either manual, or electric. A manual fuel pump requires the engine stroke to turn before it can pump fuel. An electric fuel pump starts as soon as it gets power but are switched sometimes, they are not always constant on(such as some vehicles where you switch the power on but not start the car, you can hear the fuel pump prime its-self and then click back off or to standby).

I am guessing that maybe some relay or fuse is faulty, if this is not the case you will have to probably trace your wiring.

Possibly there is some logic fault I GUESS COULD HAPPEN, but you could clear that by disconnecting your battery for a minute then reconnect.

ROBT is also right, if your fuelpump can switch its self if your line is blocked it might sense that it does not need to pump
A lot depends on the year of the car. You need to give us that info first.
Check the ignition coil or plug wires.
spark plugs. or it will help to check all the wiring.

I just had my car Cleaned up.
Fuel pump relay or fuse?

Make certain you are getting spark to the engine also.

You need three things to get a car started: Fuel, Air and Spark.

Make sure you have all three. Good Luck
oh you mean the fuel pump works but the engine wont start.

if there is no spark at the spark plugs you need to replace the electronic control module located on the distributor.
