First, make sure You've got Power going to the Fuel Pump. Find the Fuse, and use a Test Light to make sure You've got Power.Okay, Replacing the Fuel Pump is a fairly major task, and it involves much more than I could ever Explain in this Column. But, it's inside the Fuel Tank. You'll have to Drain the Tank with a Siphon Hose, Jack the Car up, Disconnect the Electrical Wires and Fuel Hoses from the Tank, after You Relieve the Fuel Pressure, if any, with the Schrader Valve, located under the Hood. Once the Tank is Removed, the entire Fuel Pump and Tank Fuel Float Level Indicator must be carefully removed, the Fuel Pump removed from the Assembly, and replaced and Rewired as was the Original, and a new rubber Gasket carefully installed to the Fuel Tank Cover.I've done it Once, and unless You do it every Day, it's a long, Involved Job. So, Spend $12 for a Haynes Manual that will give Clear-Cut Directions, and about $65 for the New Fuel Pump, and $5 for the new Strainer Filter. This all must be done very carefully, because if you make a Mistake, a Fire could very well be the result. But, if you Pay a Mechanic to Replace it, You'll probably Spend around $250. If You do it Yourself, don't just throw the Old Pump away. There are 2 really Strong Magnets inside the Old Pump, that can be removed Intact, if you're really carefull.%26quot;Open%26quot; it like you would a Sardine Can, by Peeling the Metal Covering.I get some of the Local Repair Shops to save them for Me. Hope this Helps !

Before you go changing the fuel pump, you should verify your powers and grounds. If you are sure the pump is bad then you are in for a %26quot;fun%26quot; job. I would also recommend changing your sending unit and strainer sock with the pump (all should be available from your autoparts store). Here are the steps:

1. Disconnect negative battery cable

2. Disconnect Fuel Filler Hose/Hoses

3. Support Fuel Tank with sutible device

4. Remove bolts holting fuel tank straps to chassis

5. Lower fuel tank enough to disconnect fuel lines and connector/connectors to sending unit.

6. Remove sending unit from fuel tank to allow pump to be seviced and replace fuel pump. You will need to lower tank down further to do this.

7. Reverse procedure to install
Make sure you are getting a signal to the pump

The color i think for the power wire is Pink on that vehicle - its gonna be the bigger of the 4 wires back there - find the connector to the pump under the vehicle and use a test light - have someone try to start the car and see if the light , lights up if yes then you might have a bad pump BUT check fuses and fusible links as well.

By spraying carb cleaner - you are adding fuel thus u are not getting any from the pump - you need to look at all possibilities before you waist your time changing the pump and its only a fuse.

Good Luck
The pump is in the center of the gas tank, on the top panel. You would have to drop the tank. The pump is liquid cooled, one reason you never let the gas tank run dry. If you go for it, MAKE SURE if you drain the gasoline that you use into a clean container. Mixing gas with many substances and putting the contaminated mixture back in will cause the gas guage sensor to fail. Make sure the battery is not hooked up.
