Is it possible to change the fuel pump on a 1996 LT1 Pontiac Trans Am without dropping the fuel tank?

Is the fuel pump in the fuel tank?

You can't get there from here - the tank has to be dropped. It can be done in a driveway with a set of jackstands (never do it with the car just supported with the jack itself!).

You have it figured out already, the pump is in the tank, accessible from the top. Some people have actually air chiseled a hole in the trunk floor to get to it. It sucks.
yes sir the fuel pump is in the gas tank good luck its alot of work but you can do it
its in the tank but cutting hole is worse thing to do cause it will never look like a pro did it better to lower tank gm has finally put door in trunk to get to these on newer cars they should have done it sooner like the same year they put pumps in the tank
Yes and no. You can always take out your back seat get a hole saw and cut a huge hole in the metal right above the fuel pump...but good luck getting the harness and fuel lines to clear. Honestly this isnt a bad a job. Both fuel lines are quick connect and there is 2 bolts holding the straps on. If you do it right you WILL NOT have to take the exhaust off.
probably not, some people cut holes in the rear interior to get to the top of the gas tank w/out dropping it, next time!! which means yes drop the tank and see if you can cut an interior hole so next time you wont have to drop the tank. wtf once the seat is replace only you will know you have a hole in the interior
the pump is in the tank yes. but if you want to cut away to get it out you can its your car. it will most likely take you just as long to cut a hole as it will to drop the tank. As a matter of fact i have cut a hole and made it look good. but really how many times are you going to change to fuel pump? and i didnt pull out the seats. the pump i in the middle of the hump behind the seats i just folded up the carpet from the back. anyway dude its your car. I got a 1994 LT1
The pump is in the tank and to do it RIGHT you should drop the tank. There are plenty of people that have cut access doors in the floor above where the pump is....but IMO that's a hack job in 99% of the cases.
