How do you change the fuel filter and fuel pump?

How do you change it? Isnt the fuel pump and fuel filter located in the back of the car by the gas tank?
How do you change the fuel filter and fuel pump?
There are few kinds of pumps. The most used ones are the in tank and the in line ones. Without the make and model I can only guess that yours is inside the fuel tank.

It is not an easy job for non experienced person. However, here are the steps to fallow,

It is better to do it with an empty tank...

- Unhook the battery

- Open the gas tank cap.

- Release the fuel pressure from the fuel pressure rail (There is a valve that looks like a tire valve)

- Lift and jack the vehicle up.

- Take the wheel off

- Put a jack under the tank just to hold this one up.

- Take the two bolts holding the two metal straps.

- Slowly lower the tank half way.

- Unplug the harness

- Unhook the fuel line and the air line.

- Completely lower the tank.

- There are couple of systems used to secure the pump in a tank. You should be able to figure out how to take the fuel pump off when you see it. If you cannot, then you are not skilled enough to the job.

- The installation is the reverse (Do exactly the reverse except the fuel pressure release).

You are done.

NOTE: Make sure you clean the tank before taking off the pump as a dirt can get in.

Good luck!

I forgot all about the fuel filter. If you fallow the fuel line from the tank towards the engine, you would see it underneath the car. It depends on a vehicle, but all fuel filters are a part of the fuel line so...you will find it. Also, in some vehicles, you access the fuel pump by lifting the rear seat.

look at ur other post...ask granny if she tuned it in last 5 years first...and a shop manual is best 15 dollars u can spend....step by step and pictures....
If it is a ford you will need a special tool for the fuel lines for the pump as well as the filter.
