i have a 1993 mercury sable station wagon and sometimes i can hear the fuel pump cut on and the car will start, then it will cut off by itself and then i cannot hear the fuel pump and it wont start, a few minutes later i can hear fuel pump and its starts, what could the problem be? I have already changed the fuel pump itself.

Fuel pump failure could be caused by bad fuel pump relay,fuel pump cut out switch,(inertia switch),connections at pump,relay,switches,ignition switch,wiring,how plugged is the fuel filter,(causing pump to over heat),good luck
relay is going bad.
