Why does the engine oil in 84 Dodge Ram D100, smell like gas after I've changed fuel pump and carburetor?

I was told to change carb, I replaced a previous rebuilt carb with a rebuilt Holley. Also have recently changed air and fuel filters. Have Electronic Spark Advance without O2 feedback.

Well, if you have done these changes, I must ask if you've done an oil change since replacing those parts. If not, the fuel pump may have been leaking past the diaphragm into the crankcase, and the fuel might still be in there. It won't evaporate. Also, check your PCV valve. The PCV valve is supposed to keep air flow (vacuum) flowing in one direction only, from your crankcase to the intake system. If it is stuck or defective, this may be allowing intake gases (including fuel) into your crankcase. An easy way to check it is to take it out and shake it. If you hear it rattle inside, then it is free and not stuck. It still might be defective though, and for a few bucks, they are usually pretty cheap to replace.

Good luck with your pickup!

Sound like you have a crack in the manifold.
